IRISH MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE ASSOC 5K WALK: 2013 is the year of the gathering and last Saturday afternoon Pallasgreen had a gathering for a purpose. It was a gathering for support of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association for much needed funds who give wonderful care and assistance plus support and research into the causes and treatment of the disease.

As the day turned out to be a huge success for the organisers but it was also a day of sadness for the family and Motor Neurone sufferer Mary Harty. Mary who has been suffering from this terrible disease since before Christmas is battling it with great dignity and brave fortitude. She was there to show her gratitude to all who turned out in the cold weather to raise not alone funds but awareness for the disease. People from all sectors of society turned out to support the cause and also for Mary. From political life to sporting life, groups, organisations, Media, schools etc were all represented. Limericks live 95fm led the way with their Shadow Crew and also broadcasted from Pallasgreen during the morning. The start was delayed due to the large volume of people who turned out (some estimated around a thousand people made their way to the start line) It finally got under way in tremendous sunshine led by Mary Harty. The long stream of human chain made its way to Nicker School to Nicker Village onto Old Pallas. The route took them to one of the most scenic and spectacular areas of County Limerick with rolling hillsides and views of natural beauty. From Old Pallas it was back to the Community Centre for the finish and that welcomed cup of hot tea/coffee and refreshments. A few thank you’s was addressed to the thronged community centre. Tom Ryan (w) Chairman of the Pallasgreen/Templebraden Development Assoc, Noel Noonan on behalf of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Carmel Harty sister Of Mary on behalf of the family thanked everyone who turned out as a show of solidarity for Mary and sacrificing their time to support the fundraiser.. It was a day that unified all sectors of community life. A huge thanks to the community of Pallasgreen who came together to play their part and must be complimented inconjunction with the Pallasgreen/Templebraden Development Association who organised the event. With so many people involved (too many to mention) a big thank you to everyone who made the day a huge success and put Pallasgreen in a positive light.

Well done to all: Foot note; Anyone who has Pallas Utd Hi Vis vests from the walk would they please hand them back to Ann O’Connor at the Community Centre as soon as possible.
