KNOCKAINEY AFC: Div. 1B Kennedy Park 0 Knockainey A 7, Sunday 17th February. Third time lucky as this game was called off twice due to bad weather, the first eleven needed to perform well as Knockainey had a full panel to select from and they did not disappoint. Knockainey controlled this game from start to finish and Mal Hayes had only one excellent save to make from a free kick but the Kennedy Park keeper was a lot busier as we slipped seven past him in a very one sided game. The back four had very little to do as Nigel Finch and Ed Dooley dominated the midfield duels and helped themselves to three goals in the process. Kevin Moloney and Darren Connery were busy as the cross field wind was making it difficult for the wingers to keep the ball in play. Nick Hayes was pulled down in the box and converted the penalty himself. Jonathan Cosgrave worked hard upfront and was rewarded with two goals. The pick of the goals was a 30 yard shot from Padraic Barron after passing two players in the process. Team: Mal Hayes, Shane Finch, Padraic Barron, Ricky Hartigan, Mark Hartigan, Ed Dooley, Nigel Finch, Kevin Moloney, Darren Connery, Nick Hayes, Jonathan Cosgrave, Rory O’Connor, Michael Meehan, Cathal Hayes, Noel Hickey and Liam O’Shea. Div. 3B Meanus 0 Knockainey B 1, Sunday 17th February. The B team got back to winning ways when they secured all three points away to Meanus. Played in very difficult conditions Knockainey were on top for most of this game. This was a tough game from start to finish with no player from either side found wanting. The game was played at a good tempo with Knockainey playing a good passing game with the strong wind. The first half of the game was close with both sides creating chances but failing to capitalize on their efforts. At the break the lads knew that it was going to take a huge effort to gain all three points and they did not disappoint. Straight from the start Knockainey took the game to Meanus by playing the better football. Kieran Madden was unlucky with a header that drifted just wide after a free kick by Alan O’Connell. The mid field were enjoying more of the ball and setting up some good attacks on goal. John Ryan and Jason Murphy worked hard down the right and left wings. Knockainey were rewarded for their effort later in the half when substitute Christy O’Dea scored the winning goal after good work by Lar Small. The Knockainey defence of Cuan Leahy, Kieran Madden, Diarmuid O’Dea and Paddy Noonan played a solid game throughout with Derek Greene in fine form between the posts. This was a good team performance all round with Cuan Leahy giving a man of the match performance. Team: Derek Green, Cuan Leahy, Kieran Madden, Diarmuid O’Dea, Patrick Noonan, John Ryan, Alan O’Connell, David Roche, Martin Hickey, Jason Murphy & Lar Small. Substitutes: Christy O’Dea, Joey Hayes, Padraig Blackwell & Brian Doody Knockainey
