TRADITIONAL music duo The Corrigan Brothers, best known for their song ‘There’s No One as Irish as Barack Obama’ are set entertain elderly members of Our Lady of Lourdes in November.
The brothers will perform for the Senior Citizens at the Our Lady of Lourdes Community Centre at the Tuesday Night Club on November 8.
The event was made possible through the Community Centre’s partnership with Dell’s Make a Difference Programme.
Lee-Ann Purcell, CEO of Our Lady of Lourdes Community Services Group paid tribute to the staff at Dell for their time and effort.
“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the volunteers at Dell and to the Make a Difference team.
“The many initiatives, such as this one and both the computer classes and clinic, are proving to bee very successful” she said.
In January 2008, The Corrigan Brothers were invited to perform at the Inauguration of President of America Barack Obama and received an incredible welcome from Washington.
Originally from Tipperary, The Corrigan Brothers have achieved five-million Youtube hits with their first single and achieved worldwide fame as a result. They have also appeared on television in Ireland and America.
As part of the arrangement, volunteers from Dell will organise an event each month for the elderly. Christmas caroling is planned for December.
For the first night of entertainment on October 11 Declan Deegan, Maureen O’Grady, Ger Carey and Eoghan Deegan of Dell entertained the group with music and a sing-song where all joined in.
Employees from Dell are also teaching computer classes at the centre, with plans for a second set of classes in the new year.
The staff are also providing a drop-in computer advice clinic on the first Friday of each month.
New members are always welcome to the Tuesday night club which runs weekly in Our Lady of Lourdes Community Centre.
