JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS BRIDGE 52 YEAR GAP: On Sunday last in Pairc Ui Rinn Mitchesltown Junior A footballers bridged a 52 year gap when they won the Co JAFC title. In wet conditions they recorded a close but deserved win over St Colum’s by 0-12 to 2- 4. 1961 was the last time that Mitchelstown were crowned Co JAFC kingpins. They reached the Co final on 7 occasions but tasted luck on Sunday after so many set backs. Mitchelstown will have little time to celebrate as they play Keel (Kerry) this Sunday in the Munster JFC quarter final. There were great scenes of excitement in the ‘Town on Sunday night but heavy rain dampened the activities. CBS HURLERS INTO SEMI FINAL: Mitchelstown CBS Senior hurlers were far too good for North Monastery in the Cork Colleges Senior BHC quarter final at Rathcormac on Wednesday. From the start the winners gained supremecy and they had four points in the opening 9 minutes two each by Joseph O’Sullivan and Jamie O’Gorman. Further pressure saw the CBS have their first goal by impressive Joseph O’Sullivan. In the 17th minute good work by James Mullins led to a goal by Philip English with Jack Blackburne putting Joseph O’Sullivan through for another goal two minutes later 3-5 to 0- 0. Joe O’Sullivan tagged on a pointed 65 and followed with his third goal. Donncadha Neville had North Mon’s only first half score on the stroke of half time that had CBS well in control when leading 4- 9 to 0-1.

The second half was much the same. North Mon had a goal and a point by Conor Magee. CBS introduced a number of substitutes during this half and they just added four points to their half time tally and were victorious by 4-13 to 1-2 CBS now meet Kinsale Community School in the semi final. UNDER 14 FOOTBALLERS: Mitchelstown lost out to Fermoy in the Rebel Og Co Premier (2) Under 14 FC final replay at Mallow On Tuesday night. From the start Fermoy gained supremecy and two early goals gave them a decided advantage. At the break Fermoy led 2-3 to 1-1. Mitchelstown found it hard to break down a solid Fermoy backline in the second half and Fermoy with a fourth goal ran out winners by 4 -8 to 2- 4. TABLE QUIZ : There will be a Table Quiz in Ballindangan Hall this Saturday night November 16 at 8pm. Entry fee €30 per table of four. Proceeds towards the continuous repairs and upkeep of the Hall.
