CARDS: The results of last week’s card game at Monagea Parish Hall were 1st, with nine games, Con and Esther Horgan. 2nd divided, with eight games each, Peter Talbot and Eileen Geary, Donal and Maureen Mulcahy. Table prizes Peter Culhane and Bridget Kenny, Tom Purcell and Noel McCarthy, Jer and Mary Collins. Raffle Annie Leahy, Pat Lynch, Peter Culhane and Eileen Sugrue. The card game continues every Wednesday night at 9pm.

PARISH MISSION: The Monagea Parish Mission starts on this Sunday November 17. On this Saturday November 16 following the 7pm mass and on Sunday 17 following the 10am mass there will be a special blessing of babies and young children. The opening of the mission will be at 7.30pm on Sunday 17th. Fro, Monday 18th November to Friday November 22nd there will be mass at 7am and 9.30am each day. The mission will be at 7.30pm each evening. These sessions will not include mass. Each of the evening sessions will have a particular theme. These are – Sunday a celebrations of Community, Monday the healing power of God, Tuesday prayer and fait in Gods word, Wednesday life and the sacraments, Thursday reconciliation and Friday we are Gods family. On Thursday 21st mass of Anointing for the sick and elderly will be celebrated at 12 noon followed by refreshments in the Parish Hall. The missioners, who are from the Redemptorists order in Limerick, put a huge amount of work into preparing each theme so it would be great to see a big crowd turning out. Everybody will be most welcome.

GRAVEYARD MASS: The annual Monagea graveyard mass will be celebrated in Monagea church on Sunday November 24th at 12 noon. Following the mass there will be the blessing of the graves. As a result of this mass there will be no 10am mass on that date. A collection for the maintenance of the graveyard will be taken up on Saturday night November 23rd and Sunday November 24th. This collection will be taken up at the church door and not at the church gate. The committee would like to thank the Newcastle West FAS scheme for all their work in the graveyard during 2013.

MONAGEA GAA 300 CLUB: The first draw in the Monagea GAA 300 club took place on Friday night last in Strand. The following were the results €1000 Kelly Walton – promoter DJ Corbett, €400 Timmy Harnett – promoter Patrick Enright, €200 Jimmy and Mary Corbett – promoter DJ Corbett, €100 Nellie Hogan – promoter Kevin Hogan, €100 Meave Kirwin – promoter Padraig Kennedy, €50 Pa and Ann Leahy – promoter John Flavin, €50 Padraig King – promoter John King. There were two €50 prizes for fully paid up members and these were won by Padraig King and Catherine Flavin. Monagea GAA club would like to thank everyone for supporting the draw which is one of their major fundraisers each year. Thanks also to all the promoters for their efforts. A small number of places are still available for the remaining three draws. The second draw will take place in Strand on Saturday November 23rd.

LIMERICK GAA CLUB DRAW: The Limerick GAA club draw for November took place at Croke Park Bar, Croagh recently. Monagea did not have a winner this time. The final draw for 2013 will take place on Friday December 6th at the Weigh Inn Ballysheedy. Monagea GAA club would like to thank everyone who joined through the club for 2013. It is a good fundraiser for the club.

MINOR A HURLING SEMI FINAL: Murroe Boher proved just that little bit too strong for St Davids (Newcastle West and Monagea) in the recent county minor A hurling semi final. The final score was 0-18 to 2-09. Monagea were represented by Michael Loughnane at corner back and Stephen Brosnan and Kieran Herlihy in the half back line. All three played well in what was their final minor game of the year.

AGM OF MONAGEA GAA CLUB: The AGM of Monagea GAA club will be held on Saturday November 23rd at 8pm in the Parish Hall. As usual there will be some highs and lows to be recalled when reviewing 2013. A lot of hard work goes into running the club so why not come along to show your appreciation of that hard work.

CHARITY FUN RUN/WALK: On this Sunday, November 17th, there will be a charity 5K fun run/walk. It is to raise fund for three local people, Patrick Lenihan, Mary Barry and Seamus Hickey, who will travel to Mombasa in Kenya next January to build six classrooms in a primary school. They will spend twelve days there, together with other volunteers, as part of the Ray of Sunshine Foundation Ltd. This is a charity which is registered in Ennis, Co Clare. The walk starts at 12.30pm and registration will take place at Mountcollins Community Centre from 11.15am to 12.15pm. Refreshments will be served afterwards. Your support for this very worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

WEST LIMERICK 102FM FUNDRAISERS: West Limerick 102fm, the local community radio station, are holding two fundraising events in November. The first is a ceili at Knockaderry Hall on Friday November 22nd. Dancing commences at 9.30pm to the music of Donie Nolan. Refreshments will be served and your support would be appreciated.

On Sunday November 24th they will hold their monthly car boot sale at Newcastle West Community Centre. This is a great opportunity to get rid of excess items from your home or pick up some unusual items for Christmas. Further details can be got by ringing 069 66200.

MARATHON RUN: Congratulations to Dave Wrenne of Glenmore Strand on his outstanding run in the recent Dublin City Marathon. There was over 14,000 starters and Dave was well up in the top third of those that finished. His effort also raised some valuable funds for charity. Dave is continuing to train as he plans another marathon in Co Cork in December.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF: Newcastle West musical society will perform their final two shows of Fiddler on the Roof on this Friday and Sunday nights November 15th and 17th. The show is being performed at Knockaderry Resource Centre at 8pm each night. From its previous performances it is obvious that a tremendous amount of work has gone into the production. The excellently designed set has also got great praise. This is a show that is well worth seeing.

FASHION SHOW: Newcastle West Agricultural Show Committee are organising a fashion show at the Courtney Lodge Hotel on this Friday November 15 at 8pm. Most of the local clothes and show shops will be featuring in the show. Part of the proceeds will go to the St Ita’s Hospice Unit. There will be a cheese and wine reception and also a raffle. Everybody welcome.
