BAPTISM MEETING: A Baptism meeting is being held in the Millennium Centre, Raheen this Thursday evening September 5 at 7.30pm; parents whose babies are about to be baptised are obliged to attend this meeting. Baptism meetings, organised by the Parish Baptism team, are held in the Millennium Centre, Raheen on the first Thursday of each month, commencing at 7.30pm. The purpose of these meetings is to assist with preparation for receiving the Sacrament; parents, and godparents if possible, who reside in the parish, and who intend having their child baptised, are strongly encouraged to attend one of these meetings, where all of the information which they require regarding the Sacrament of Baptism will be made available to them.
FIRST FRIDAY: This Friday September 6 is the First Friday of the month. Daily Mass will be celebrated in Mungret Church at 9.30am and in Raheen Church at 10am; there will be a 7.30pm Evening Mass in Raheen Church also. Holy Communion will, as usual, be brought to the sick and housebound by the Priests of the Parish.
PIONEER ASSOCIATION: The monthly meeting of the local Pioneer Centre takes place this Friday evening September 6 in the Millennium Centre, Raheen. Anyone who wishes to become a Pioneer, or, who is already a Pioneer and wishes to become a member of the Raheen Centre, or who wishes to obtain information regarding the services provided by the Centre, is welcome to come along to any of the monthly meetings, which are held on the first Friday of each month, with the exception of July and August.
THE SAMARITANS: The Limerick branch of the Samaritans organisation has arranged an Information Evening at it’s Barrington Street premises for Monday evening next September 9at 7.30pm. Anyone interested in becoming a Volunteer with the organisation is invited to come along to this Information Evening; further information can be obtained by contacting email@example.com. The Samaritans offer emotional support to callers who feel worried, distressed, who cannot cope or who may feel suicidal. The value of the ongoing voluntary work undertaken by the Samaritans cannot be praised enough.
YOUNG AT HEART: The local “Young At Heart” Club is recommencing its weekly “get togethers”, following the Summer break, on Tuesday next September 10. The Club meets at Mungret/St. Paul’s GAA Clubhouse on Tuesday mornings from 10.30am until 12noon. Any retired person residing in the Parish - Mungret/Crecora/Raheen - who would be interested in the Club’s activities is welcome to come along next Tuesday morning for a cup of tea and a chat.
PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL: Monthly meetings of Mungret/Crecora/Raheen Parish Pastoral Council resume on Tuesday next September 10at 8.15pm in the Millennium Centre, Raheen. Members are requested to please note this date, and to attend the meeting.
ST. JOSEPH’S YOUNG PRIESTS: Monthly meetings of the local St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society resume on Wednesday next, 11 September, at 8pm in the Millennium Centre, Raheen. Anyone interested in becoming involved in the work of the Society is welcome to come along to any of the monthly meetings, which are held on the second Wednesday of each month, with the exception of July and August.
MACRA NA FEIRME: The next meeting of Raheen Macra na Feirme (Limerick City Branch) will take place on Wednesday September 11 in the Unicorn Bar, Dooradoyle at 8pm; the Raheen Branch holds Club meetings at this venue on the second Wednesday of each month. Anyone interested in becoming involved in Macra is welcome to come along to any of these monthly gatherings. GRANDPARENTS PILGRIMAGE: A final reminder to those who are interested - the annual National Grandparents Association Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Knock Shrine in Co. Mayo is taking place this Sunday September 8. Judging by the experience of previous years, numbers of the order of ten thousand are expected to travel to Knock for this, the seventh such National Pilgrimage. PARISH NEWSLETTER: The weekly Parish newsletter resumed publication last weekend, following the Summer break. Contributions for inclusion in the newsletter can be submitted to the Parish office, tel. 210869, by 12noon on Thursdays, prior to publication that weekend. Any submissions, which should be in writing, received after that deadline cannot be guaranteed inclusion in that weekend’s newsletter.
ST. NESSAN’S NATIONAL SCHOOL: St. Nessan’s National School, Mungret re-opened for the new academic year on Friday last; hopefully, all pupils, especially those commencing in the Junior Infant classes, have settled in now, and all are wished a very fruitful term’s work.
“MARANATHA”: The Maranatha Prayer Ministry invites anyone who is interested to a Healing Retreat which will take place on Sunday, 15 September, from 2.30pm to 7.30pm at St. Paul’s Church in Dooradoyle. The event will include Mass, the Rosary, Inner Healing Prayers, Eucharistic Adoration and Confession. Music for the occasion will be provided by the Maranatha Gospel Choir. Tea and refreshments will be served in the adjoining Hall afterwards. Everyone is welcome.
