ASTRO TURF: The official opening of the All Weather Sports Facility will take place on Saturday next 7th September 2013 at 1pm. Niall Quinn of Arsenal, Manchester City and Sunderland fame and who was also an accomplished hurler will be special guest to perform the ceremony. This great facility will be known as Ger McDonnell Park. A fun packed afternoon of entertainment is assured, with underage soccer, rugby, gaelic, camogie and plenty more to mark the occasion. Everybody is welcome.
GOING STRONG: We are back in the Community Centre in Kilcornan since last Monday and every Monday evening at 8 pm.
SOCCER CLUB: We are back to that time of year - the Premier League is back and as night follows day we will be starting up a new round of our highly successful Last Man Standing. This round will begin on Saturday September 14. Anyone can join, just text Hugh on 086 3569104.
SET DANCING: After the success of the Curraghchase Platform Dancing last Sunday maybe more people might be encouraged to come along on Monday evenings to Kilcornan House for set dancing classes. Classes for children and teenagers are from 8pm to 9pm also for adult beginners, to help them to get to know some steps and rhythm before getting into the sets at 9pm . Set Dancing then continues until 10.30. The cost of the classes are €5. Children €3. Couples €9. The classes will begin on Monday September 9.
HERITAGE SOCIETY: Knockfierna Heritage Society will hold their annual outing to Cahir Castle, The Swiss Cottage, Rock of Cashel, Holy Cross Abbey on Sunday, September 29. Previous outings have proved to be most enjoyable occasions. Mr. Philip Lynch of Kilkenny will be tour guide for the day. DANCING CLASSES: Line Dancing classes are starting in Kilcornan Community Hall on Monday 9th September at 7pm.
ORAL HISTORY TRAINING: West Limerick Resources will be running an Oral History Recording Training Initiative this autumn. Training will consist of two elements. Participants will develop Oral History Interviewing techniques as well as examine the legal and ethical issues relevant to gathering Oral History. The second element of the training will focus on digital voice recording and editing techniques. Training will also explore how oral history can contribute to the local heritage of communities and identify suitable ways of showcasing their research. Training is expected to begin in October and to run one evening per week for 10 weeks. The course is free of charge and open to people living in the West Limerick area. TIDY TOWNS NETWORK TRAINING: Communities taking part in Tidy Towns or environmental activities in the West Limerick area are invited to take part in a one day training session on Invasive Species which will take place on this coming Saturday September 7 as part of on-going training and support being offer by West Limerick Resources and An Taisce through the West Limerick Tidy Towns Network.
