NIALL MELLON DRAMA FUNDRAISER: Rated as “Must See” by The New York Times, supporters of high quality drama will have an opportunity to see this unique show when Pat Kinevane brings his one man play “SILENT” to The Woodlands Hotel on Thursday, September 4. Pat is kindly giving his performance free gratis to support The Niall Mellon Project, which this year will see a school and health centre being built in one of the most deprived parts of Kenya. Including a cheese and wine reception, tickets cost €20 with all proceeds raised going to this worthy cause. A show not to be missed. ADARE PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP: The Adare Parent and Toddler group will start back on Friday 13th of September, upstairs in the Heritage Centre at 10.15am. They meet at 10.15 until 12.15 to facilitate those who have to collect children from playschool. They would like to issue a special invitation to all parents of children from 0-5 to come and join us on Friday mornings especially Dads, childminders and grandparents minding children in this age group. If you are expecting your first baby and would like some advice and a chat please do come along. The cost is €3 per family and includes tea, coffee, biscuits and treats for the toddlers! GROW YOUR OWN FETAC COURSES: Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, (formerly County Limerick VEC) are now enrolling for FETAC 3 Grow your own Vegetables and FETAC 4 Grow your own Fruit courses in West Limerick. Both courses will take place in Ardagh, on Blackhill Organic Farm, and run one day per week from September 2013 to June 2014. Each participant will have the opportunity to learn how to grow a wide range of delicious foods using organic methods with an emphasis on practical skills and an opportunity to gain certification. LINE DANCING CLASSES: Line Dancing classes are starting in Kilcornan Community Hall on Monday 9 September at 7pm.

WLCR AGM: The AGM of West Limerick Community Radio will be held on Tuesday 24 September at 8p.m. in the Desmond Complex. Any Submissions/Questions should be handed into the station in a sealed envelope by the 17 September, to be answered on the night.

KNOCKFIERNA HERITAGE SOCIETY: Knockfierna Heritage Society will hold their annual outing to Cahir Castle, The Swiss Cottage, Rock of Cashel, Holy Cross Abbey on Sunday 29 September. ORAL HISTORY TRAINING: West Limerick Resources will be running an Oral History Recording Training Initiative this autumn. Training will consist of two elements. Participants will develop Oral History Interviewing techniques as well as examine the legal and ethical issues relevant to gathering Oral History. The second element of the training will focus on digital voice recording and editing techniques. Training will also explore how oral history can contribute to the local heritage of communities and identify suitable ways of showcasing their research. Training is expected to begin in October and to run one evening per week for 10 weeks. The course is free of charge and open to people living in the West Limerick area. TIDY TOWNS NETWORK TRAINING: Communities taking part in Tidy Towns or environmental activities in the West Limerick area are invited to take part in a one day training session on Invasive Species which will take place on this coming Saturday September 7 as part of on-going training and support being offer by West Limerick Resources and An Taisce through the West Limerick Tidy Towns Network. FR. MICHAEL MURPHY APPEAL FOR UNUSED SECOND HAND LAPTOPS: Fr. Michael Murphy (Kilcornan and Nigeria) would like to express his thanks to all those who donated their unused laptops for his school in Nigeria in 2012.He has an on-going requirement for a quantity of unused second hand laptops which can be used for training purposes in his school in Nigeria. He would gratefully appreciate it, if any such laptops could be donated so that he can take them to Nigeria on his return at the end of August.
