CASTLE GOLF SOCIETY: A fine turnout of Society members travelled to Mitchelstown Golf Club on Saturday, August 17, to play their sixth outing of the season.

There were many positives contributing to making it a great day for the players’ enjoyment: a cheerful atmosphere among the players, free flowing banter, the course in superb condition and a high level of anticipation from each player for a good performance on the day.

The weather certainly had a major affect on the day’s play due to extremely heavy showers and a swirling breeze leading to energy sapping conditions. However, undaunted, the competitive nature of the players emerged, resulting in passages of exceptional golf being played and excellent scores were returned.

Eugene Hannon was in sparkling form, playing delightful golf, displaying consistency with 20 points on both the front and back nine, posting a brilliant 40 points overall and deservedly winning first place. Congratulations Eugene.

Noel Ryan, throwing caution to the wind, had a scintillating 23 points on the back nine which gave him a grand total of 35 points and eased him into second place.

Willie Reddy amassed an excellent score of 34 points to secure the third place.

Paul Carroll had an encouraging 32 points which clinched fourth place.

James Reddy won the front nine with 19 points and Connie Carroll won the back nine with 18 points. Eugene Hannon won nearest the pin and Willie Reddy won the longest drive.

The presentation of prizes took place at Charco’s later that evening.

Noel Ryan, Captain of the Society, welcomed all those present and said he was delighted with the outing. Noel thanked the Walpoles for their hospitality, the players for their support, the committee for their efficiency, those who helped in any way and congratulated all the prizewinners.

The next outing will be held at Shannon Golf Club on Saturday, September 14, with tee off time 10.04 to 11.56.
