BEREAVEMENT: We offer our sympathies to Margaret Brett and family, Main Street, on the death of her Mother Teresa O’Shea, Castleisland, who died peacefully at her residence August 18. She would have been in her 99th year.

TENNIS CLUB: It has been a very busy and enjoyable summer season in the club with lots still happening in the coming weeks. Cardio Tennis commenced Wednesday September 4. This high energy fitness activity is suitable for all ability levels and is proving to be a great success. Junior Tennis coaching commences Sunday September 8, €20 for 4 sessions, 4 – 6 years at 10am, 7 – 9 at 11am, 10 years + at 12pm. Teenage tennis coaching starts Friday September 6, 6 – 7pm. Adult tennis coaching (beginners and improvers) starts Friday September 6, 7 – 8 pm and 8 – 9 pm, €25 for 5 sessions. Advanced coaching Wednesday’s at 9.30pm. Social nights for adults every Thursday at 7.30pm. Entries being taken for adult singles league (male and female) starting shortly. A very successful tennis/French summer camp was held for 10 – 13 year olds where basic french lessons and tennis coaching were combined, it proved very beneficial and was enjoyed by all. Thanks to tutor and coach Michael Neau. The Junior Open American Tournament was held last week with juniors from local clubs. Winners in the 8 to 10 year olds were Shane Whelan, Scott Sheehan, Caoimhe Real, and Carley Hayes. In 11 to 13 year olds winners were Gillian Kemp and Adam Doherty, runners up Eli Whelan and Hannah Kate. In the teenage section winners were Diarmuid Quirke and Gillian Kemp, runners up Sean Devlin and Darragh Long. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out on the day and well done to all who participated.

The annual Adults Open American Tournament was held last Sunday with a large entry from neighbouring clubs. Great matches were played in all sections and was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Emly club for the use of their courts and to everyone who provided food and help on the day.Winners: mixed doubles, Tom Carroll, Knockainey and Claire Ryan, Lattin. Runners up Darragh Laffan, Hospital and Mary Devlin, Tipperary Co. In the ladies section Elaine Sadler, Hospital and Helen Hartigan, Lough Gur. Runners up Tina Deegan and Orla O’Donaghue, Hospital. The other ladies section winners were Tikki McMahon, Knockainey and Mary Quirke, Hospital. Runners up Barbara Danagher, Hospital and Louise Ryan Garryspillane. Congratulations to all.

BORD NA NOG: U6 and U8 football and hurling training on Thursday’s at 6pm, new players welcome always. An U8 and U8 hurling blitz on Friday at 6 in Herbertstown field v Pallas, Shamrock Gaels and Croom. Please come along and support the new players starting out. The trip to Trabolgan is on for Saturday September 21 for all U6, 8, 110, and 12 players. this is the second year of taking these age groups on a fun day trip and last year’s trip was a huge success and enjoyed by all. Application forms have been given out, anyone still looking for a form can get one from their coach. The U13s are now training for the start of their group matches. U12s play their finals day matches Saturday September 7 in Mick Neville park, Rathkeale, best of luck to them. The U10s have been busy lately and have played numerous blitzes and matches where their progress has been great due to some good work by their coaches, William, Pa, Dermot and Dave. The Bord na nOg club are preparing to hold their up coming parish league. this year they hope to have a football and hurling league for the U6s, 8s and 10s and a new U12 to U14 hurling league. these evenings should be great evening of games for all.

HOSPITAL FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE TRAINING AND EDUCATION SEPTEMBER: Course Registration and Cert Presentation Friday 13 September 12 – 2pm. Hospital Family Resource Centre will be hosting a variety of Adult Education & Training Programmes from September 2013 in partnership with local service providers. Programmes include: Basic Computers, Computers Fetac Level 3 & 4 Modules, Retail Skills Fetac Level 4, Internet & Email, Drama, Health and Beauty, Talk to Teens, Men’s Furniture Restoration, Parenting.

These programmes will run during the day and there will also be evening programmes available. Hospital FRC will host an open information registration day on Friday September 13 from 12 – 2pm and will also present Certs to previous learners in the centre.
