Mission Meeting: As part of our preparation for the upcoming Parish Mission we hope to set up several groups who will be responsible for different themes during the Mission. We would like to get as many people as possible involved in the preparation to ensure that the Mission will be a positive and successful experience for the entire Parish community. We invite anyone who would like to get involved in the planning and preparation to join us at our next Meeting on this Thursday September the 5 at 7.30pm in the Community Centre Broadford. Everyone is welcome.

Bereavement: Our sympathy is extended to the Noonan families of Mallow and Dromcollogher on the death of Billy Noonan Mallow and formally of John Paul Tce. Broadford and St. Joseph’s Park Dromcollogher. We would also to extend our sympathy to the Bridie Brosnan Knocktooch Broadford and Hannah Ryan (nee Brosnan) Tipperary on the death of their sister Kitty O’Connor (nee Brosnan) formally of Freemount and also to all her nephews and nieces, their relatives, neighbours and friends. Her removal was from Daly’s Funeral Home Dromcollogher to Our Lady of the Snows Church Broadford for her Requiem Mass was con-celebrated by Fr. F. O’Dea P. P. Dromcollogher/Broadford assisted by Canon S. Ambrose and afterwards she was laid to rest in Kilbrin Cemetery Co. Cork. Solas Na fleaithis ar an anamacha dilis.

Musical Gathering: A top class performance by the present cast of the Broadford Musical Group of the hilarious comedy “Nunsense” got a standing ovation from the audience at the Community Centre on Saturday night last August 31st. The cast were Hazel Lenihan, Emma Lynch, Nula O’Callaghan, Barbara Power, Jayne Guiney and Mary Noonan. Musical Director was Margaret O’Donnell and the show was produced by John Pierce. The raffle winners were: Marie O’Callaghan, Rachel Power, Paul Edmunds, Kathy Foley, John Rohan and Helen O’Mahony.

Gathering Events The dates for the “Gathering Festival” week- end are from Thursday October 17th to Monday October 21st. The programme of events is now nearing completion and includes A Day at The Forge in Bygone Days (this should bring back some memories) also including exhibitions of old and new handcrafts in the same place. Excerpts from the Irish Folklore Commission written by pupils from Broadford and Knocktooch national schools in 1938, A photographic exhibition of old and recent events and people, A Rambling House, A Jazz Concert, Halloween Party Dance, Monster 45 Drive, and the big one, an invitation to all Broadford Families for a Gathering Reunion on the Sunday of the festival week-end and much more. The next meeting regarding the finalizing of the events is on Tuesday September 3rd at 9pm in the Community Centre. Mackey Stand Draw: The September draw of the Limerick G.A.A. Club Draw formally known as the Mackey Stand Draw will take place on Friday September 6th at the Central Bar Bruree. All members contact your promoter before that date.

Broadford Sportsfield Church Gate Collection: The Broadford Community Sportsfield fundraising committee wishes to thank the people of Dromcollogher and Broadford for the generous support of the Church Gate collection last weekend.

Active Retirement News: Congratulations to Mick Barry Ahaveheen Feenagh who won 2nd prize in the Mid-Western Region Active Retirement sponsored Art and Craft Competition held in conjunction with the Limerick Show Society at the Racecourse Patrickswell on Saturday August 24. Mick is a member of the Broadford and District Active Retirement group and is well known for his fine paintings. A timely reminder to all our members, all activies resume on Monday September 30th 2013 in the Day Care Centre Broadford at 7.30pm

West Limerick Radio: The Annual General Meeting of West Limerick Community Radio will be held on Tuesday September 24 at 8pm in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West. All are welcome.

Handball Club Draw : The winners of the first months draw in the Broadford Handball Club annual fundraising draw took place at the Handball Complex on Saturday night last August 31st. 1st Prize€500 Mick Pierce Banemore. 2nd Prize €200 Nora Collins Killeen and the winners of the five €60 prizes were Jim Geary Tullaha, James Curtin Ashford, John Brudair Newcastle West, Ursula and Mike Fahy Broadford and Mary Ann O’Brien Liscarroll. The winners for the fully paid up members prizes of €100 each were; Sean Brosnan Boola and James Curtin Ashford. The winners for All-Ireland Senior Handball Finals tickets worth €20 each which will be held at the Broadford Handball Complex on September 14th were: John Cregan Rowels, Owen O’Sullivan Springfield, Jim Barry Tullaha, Dan Kenneally Lacka, Kathleen O’Kelly Farrihy, John McCarthy Gortmore, Kieran O’Connor Dromcollogher, Hannie McCarthy Farrihy, Carol Fahy Broadford and Mary Fitzpatrick Meelin. Thanks for your continued support anyone who may still like to join the draw which is a three months and the cost is €20 per month may do so by contacting Tom O’Brien at the Post Office or any member of the committee. The prize fund is €1,000 each month. The breakdown of the prizes is 1st €500, 2nd €200 and 5 prizes of €60 each month.

GAA Lottery Draw: The Drom/Broadford lottery draw held on Monday night August 26 at the Neenans Bar and the numbers drawn were: - 8, 13, 15 and 17. The jackpot prize of €7,500 was not won. The €100 match 3 prize was won by Sean O’Leary Knockaeragh Tullylease. The lucky dips of €50 each went to Damian Lacy Ballinlongig and Martin Stokes Glenduff Broadford. Next week’s Jackpot is €7,600 (win or share) and the match three prize is €100 (win or share) will be held in the Green Bar Dromcollogher. GAA Games: The junior hurlers made their exit from the championship at Feenagh on Sunday evening September 1st after been defeated a more committed St. Mary’s Rathkeale by 1-13 to 0-11. The team lined out Niall O’Brien, James Noonan, Tom McLoughlin, Dearan Boyce, Daniel Collins, Mike Boyce, John Barrett, Micheal Brosnan, Brian Noonan, Damian Lacey, Michael O’Sullivan, Keith Lacey, Eoin Bary, Declan Stack and Liam O’Sullivan. “Adare to Survive” with Cliona’s Foundation: “Adare to Survive” is a 7.5km military style obstacle course taking place in Clonshire Equestrian Centre Adare on Sunday September 29 Cliona’s Foundation which provides financial assistance to families of critically ill children is a charity partner and participants are invited to Endeavour/ Endure/Enjoy a unique physical and mental challenge, individually or part of a 4 person team, to raise funds for charity or club of their choice.
