CHRISTIAN CHURCH: The Shannon Christian Church meets in their venue at Smithstown on Sunday mornings at 11am. The service includes contemporary worship music, relevant bible preaching, children’s programme and crèche. A midweek meeting for youth, ladies, men and home groups is also held. CAMERA CLUB: The Shannon Camera Club is celebrating 36 years of photography with an exhibition of members’ photographs in the foyer of the county Museum in Ennis. There are 46 exhibits from 30 of the club’s members. Some by members have been with the club since the beginning and, of course, some are recently enrolled members. The exhibition will continue until May 3.

GIFT REQUEST: This year the children receiving sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation will be asked to share some of what they receive with children in a Missionary country who are in need. The Sacramental Project for Shannon this year is with the children of Chivhu, Zimbabwe. This project is in association with the Irish Franciscan Friars who have personnel working in Chivhu, this ensures that the gift money that is shared goes directly to help the children in Chivhu.

APOSTOLIC WORKERS: The local branch of the apostolic workers is reminding people that they can donate a sacred vessel to the Missions in memory of a loved one, or as a birthday/anniversary gift. Phone Mai on 061 364080 for all the details.

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY: Congratulations to Seamus and Olivia McEvoy, Aidan Park, on the occasion of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. The couple were married in the Sacred Heart Church, Clones on Monday, April 15, 1963. They have five children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Family and friends came together at the weekend in SS John & Paul Church to witness Seamus and Olivia renew their vows. Congratulations!

FIRST COMMUNION: On Saturday the children from both St. Tola’s and Gael Scoil Donncha Rua will celebrate First Holy Communion at two different ceremonies. At 11am in Mary Immaculate church, the children from St. Tola’s will receive the sacrament and at 12.30pm in SS John and Paul church the children from Gael Scoil Donncha Rua will receive their First Holy Communion. Congratulations to the children, their parents, teachers and their school.

Please note there will be no 12 noon mass on Saturday in Mary immaculate due to the Communion ceremony at 11am.

DARKNESS INTO LIGHT: The Darkness into Light walk/run will take place again this year in May, a fundraiser for Pieta House. Starting at 4am, and crossing the line just as dawn is breaking, the annual 5km walk/run, is celebrating its 5th year. In Clare join the walk in Lees Road. Join in on Saturday 11 May 2013 for another unforgettable morning in one of the 20 venues across Ireland. Registration is available online at dil.pieta.ie. Pre-registration events will take place in Ennis over the coming weeks. The first of these will be in O’Connell Square on this Saturday morning from 11am to 2pm. The walk in Limerick will start from Thomond Park. Participants will be able to collect their t-shirts at these pre-registration events to save time queuing on the day of the walk. A great idea!

PARISH MISSION: The parish is looking for volunteers to help by giving of an hour to help distribute the Invitation and the gift names can be left in the Sacristy or Parish office.

WOLFE TONES: The Academy for five to eight year olds continues each Wednesday at the all-weather pitches from 6pm to 7pm. U-10 hurling training continues each Monday at 5.45pm. U-10 football is at 6pm on Wednesday and U-12 hurling also on Wednesday at 6pm. The U-8 hurlers played in their first blitz on Saturday in Ennis.

A new addition to the club is the Hurling wall which has been erected over the last month.

DANCE: St. Senan’s Social Club is holding a Benefit Dance in aid of Carrigoran Day Care Centre and Pieta House, Limerick, at the Bellsfort Inn at 9.30pm on Friday April 19 night. The music will be provided by Peter Burke. Admission is €5.

MONTHS MIND: The months mind mass for the late Martin Clair, Cullane, Kilmurry will be at 6.30pm in Ss John & Paul church on Saturday evening.

WDDINGS: Congratulations to Dinka Harrison, Cill Chais and Ned Sweeney, Tullaroan, Co. Kilkenny who were married in Tullaroan Church on Friday.

RECENT DEATHS: Sympathy to Geraldine Harrison, Cill Chais, on the death of her mother Kathleen Fitzgerald, Ballingarry, Co. Tipperary who was buried on Wednesday. May she rest in peace.
