SARSFIELD 320 HOMECOMING FESTIVAL: A fundraising table-quiz in aid of the Sarsfield 320 Homecoming Festival will be held in the Idler Bar,Knockane on this Saturday night April 20th. Tables of 4 are just 20 euros each with funds from this event helping towards the costs of staging what should be a great four days and nights for locals and visitors in July (25th-28th). Your support would be greatly appreciated.

JIM KENNEDY: News filtered through last week that Jim Kennedy has decided to hang up his writing boots as contributor to the GREAN Magazine. Jim who has been an integral part of the GREAN since its inception way back in 1980. His contribution to every magazine has been thoroughly enjoyed and was a source great entertainment to many . Who can forget the wonderful stories such as: “I heard it at the Creamery”(1981),” What Sort of a crowd are we”(1982),” Room for Roots”(1986), “ The Hay”(1986), “Law”(1989),” What went wrong with Christmas”(1990), “ The greatest University of them all”(1991), “Eavesdropping”(1992), “ The departure lounge” (2009), “Staying under the radar”(2010), “Tunes in the blood”(2011), “ The last of the Drovers”(2012). Jim domiciled in Dublin for a long number of years cites his lost link to the parish of Pallasgreen as the reason for his decision. His will leave a void in the magazine but his contribution will not be forgotten. We would like to thank Jim for his valuable contribution to the community over the years wish him and his family health and happiness for the future.

SYMPATHY: The passing of Jim McMahon of Nicker was greeted with great sadness in Pallasgreen and the surrounding area. One of nature’s gentlemen, his kind and friendly disposition endeared him to all in the community.

His sincerity and loyalty meant he was loved by all who knew him. He was an ardent GAA Follower and played with Pallasgreen winning a county junior hurling championship medal in 1968.Funeral was from Ryan’s funeral home to Nicker Church. Following requiem Mass internment took place in Old Pallas Cemetery. Sympathies are extended to his sister Nell, brothers Jerry and John, nieces, nephews relatives, neighbours and friends.

The death took place suddenly of Michael Leonard of Clashbane last week. Affectionately known as Mickey he was a well known Agricultural Contractor and well respected in the wider community. Funeral was from Cross’s funeral home Ballyneety to Caherline Church. Following requiem Mass internment took place in Inch St Lawerence Cemetery. Sympathies are extended to his wife Gearldine, daughter Martina, sons Alan, Kevin and Brian relatives and friends.

The passing of Ann-Marie Carroll nee McGrath last week of “ The Clover, Castlefarm, Hospital and formerly of Baskethill caused widespread sadness . Funeral was from Davern’s funeral home Hospital to St John the Baptist Church Hospital. Following requiem Mass internment took place in the adjoining cemetery. The late Ann-Marie was Predeceased by her father Edmund McGrath, Sympathies are extended to her husband Donie, mother Patsy McGrath, brother Patrick, sisters Josephine and Gearldine relatives and friends.

PALLASGREEN/TEMPLEBRADEN HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Society will host a talk by Margaret Franklin, entitled; Recording the Doon Graveyard Project in the Pallasgreen Community Centre on Tuesday 23rd April at 8pm. All are welcome

CHURCH RENOVATION DRAW: We ask promoters to check in with all those whom they distributed cards and to return same to Fr Burns this week or so . We appeal to promoters and all who have taken cards to try and fill them please. Part of the profit from the draw this year will be used to carry out a full examination of Templebraden Church in order to see what renovations need to be carried out and get a cost on same.

GOLF SOCIETY: Despite some rainfall just before the finish of second outing of the year at Castletroy Golf Club last Saturday morning, the team of 3 outing was played in very good conditions. With two scores to count the wind didn’t help good scoring but there was little scores to separate the first two places. Both teams finished on 80pts with the result going on a better back 9 to the following team which comprised of; Tom O’Dea, Jack O’Dwyer, James Cosgrave, and Mike Barry. Nearest to pin was Ger O’Connell and longest drive winner went to Philip Cosgrave.

Next outing will take place in Thurles Golf Clun on Saturday May 18th Tee time is reserved from 9.30am-11am

SOCCER NEWS: Our U8’s took part in a second Blitz in the U.L. complex and remain unbeaten after four game this year. We took on a big Rathkeale team and matched them in a scoreless draw. Next we met Holycross and Gavin Tobin came up with the winner. The squad was Callum Wallace, Alan Tobin, Gavin Tobin, Darragh Ryan, Tommy Ryan, Fergal Bailey, padraic Phelan, Kelsey Wallace, Zach Murphy Ryan, Jamie Cahill, Aaron Murphy Ryan Edward Franklin.

LOCAL ATHLETES: The Moyross 5 mile run took place on Friday night last . John Shanahan of Dundrum AC won in a time of 26.53 and there were 86 runners in total. Pallas had three representatives in Declan O’ Connor - 5th in..28.38, Denis O’ Connor just outside the top 10 in 11th in 30.55 and P.J. Quirke 49th in 38.58.

There is much interest in the Friends of Limerick 5K in Knockane commencing at The Idler on Saturday 27th . The start time is 7pm.

FR LIAM LAWTON CONCERT CAHERCONLISH CHURCH: On this Sunday April 21st at 8.pm, Caherconlish will have the honour of welcoming Fr. Liam Lawton as he performs in Concert in our Lady Mother of the Church, Caherconlish. Fr. Liam will be joined by local Adult and Youth Choirs under the direction of Valerie Walsh. This concert is being organised by the Parish Pastoral Council.For the past 20 years Fr. Liam he has been composing sacred and inspirational music Fr. Liam has performed in venues including the Vatican, Carnegie Hall, the White House and the Eucharist Congress held in Dublin. His song Cloud’s Veil was adopted as an anthem across America following 9/11.

GAA NEWS: The U12 Hurlers enjoyed a fine win over neighbours Cappamore last week in Pallas. In an exciting encounter Pallas came out winners by 2-9 to 0-12. Lineout was; Alex Murphy, Aidan McNamara, Adam Lynn, Michael O’Connell, Kieran O’Donnell, Colin McMahon, Colm McMahon, Conor Linnane, Aaron Greene, Josh Mulhaire, Josh McMahon, Cian Lonergan, Michaele Lonergan, Shauna Murphy, Sophie Roche, Kyle O’Connell, Luke Ryan, Owen Delaney.

The Minor hurlers and Monaleen played out an exciting draw when they met in the first round of the City/East minor championship at Monaleen last Friday night. The games finished on a scoreline of 1-14 each.

In the All County Senior football league Pallas chalked up another win away to Mungret last Saturday evening. In windy and testing conditions they came with a fine victory on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-8.
