ÉIGSE: Renowned Newcastle poet, the Late Michael Harnett, will be remembered at the annual Éigse in Newcastle West, April 25th – 27th. Michael lived for a numbers of years at Glendarragh, Templeglantine and produced a considerable volume of poetry during that time. The official opening of the Éigse will take place at Newcastle West Library on Thursday, April 25th.

CÚRSAÍ EAGLAISE: The final preparation mass in the series for those who are receiving their Fist Holy Communion this year, took place on Saturday evening last with an Canónach Micheál de Liostún as celebrant. He thanked the children, the parents and the school staff for their dedication during the preparation ceremonies. Sunday, May 12th will be First Holy Communion Day in the parish. Daily masses in the parish church this week are at the usual times. The anniversary mass for the late Mary Brosnahan, Devon Road took place on Sunday last. Beannacht Dé ar anamacha na marbh. Two babies were baptised and christened at the Holy Saturday night ceremonies in the parish church, Orla Marie, daughter of Seán and Máiréad Brosnahan and Josh Anthony son of Angela Murphy and Noel. COMHALTAS: Those branch members wishing to compete at Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh should have their entries handed in by Monday next, April 22. Entry forms are available at the music classes.

The craobh intends running a Summer Camp at Halla Inse Bhán during the first week of July catering for Primary School pupils of 8 years and upwards who have some experience of music. Dancing, singing and Gaeilge will also be part of the week. Those interested in attending should hand in their names at classes on Monday night next. The Comhaltas group has been invited to perform on the open air stage at the Fleadh by the Feale on Saturday evening, May 4th.

TRAIL NEWS: Walkers of the Great Southern Trail and others are invited to join in a walk from Kilmorna to Listowel on Sunday, April 28 at 9.00am. The event will take place along the road as the disused railway line along this stretch is not as yet available for use.

FLEADH BY THE FEALE: This year’s Fleadh by the Feale which takes place on May 2 – 6, has an attractive programme of entertainment to suit all ages including street busking, open air entertainment, Oíche Ghaelach, Céilí, music and singing workshops, bone playing competitions, storytelling session and a grand celebrity concert featuring the famed Kilfenora Céilí Band.
