Bereavement:: The people of Broadford and indeed further afield were saddened to hear of the death of Mrs. Peg O’Donnell (nee Dee) wife of the late Dr. Mick, a wonderful and kind lady who always loved to be involved and help out and encourage community based activies, a lover of nature and indeed with the weather softening out she was preparing for spring planting when she was called to her reward. Peg was a founder member of the Broadford Guild of the Irish Countrywomen’s Association and it was a fitting tribute to her to see past and present members of the guild form a guard of honor at the church, in recognition of her services and strong association with the I.C.A. The flag of the Irish Red Cross was on her coffin in recognition of her association with that voluntary body which had honored her recently with a 60 year service medal and scroll. Her Requiem mass was celebrated in Our Lady of the Snows church Broadford by Canon Ambrose former P.P. of Drom/Broadford assisted by Fr. O’Dea our present P.P. and Fr. Cummings a friend of the family and afterwards she was laid to rest in Springfield cemetery, to her son Micheal, daughters Margaret, Maura and Áine, her daughter-in-law, sons- in-law, grandchildren, all her relatives, neighbours and friends we extend our deepest sympathy. Ar deis lámh Dé go raibh an anam dilis.

Tidy Towns: It’s that time of year again when the Tidy Towns committee gets ready for action with regard to putting in place a programme to enhance the look of the village and surrounding area for 2013. Last’s years gain of points in the overall context were mainly due to the placing of the large flower boxes in strategic places around the area, these boxes were mainly funded by grants from West Limerick Resources, so this year with a lot of these grants not available anymore, a campaign to look for sponsorship for the hanging baskets from clubs, originations and individuals to help defray costs and with a good response to our annual Church Gate collection later in the year, all will help us continue to carry out more improvements this year. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
