There was no winner of the jackpot. Lucky dips to Gary Maher, Michael O’Neill c/o Bridget Kelly, Bobby Foley and Paudie Ivess. Next week’s jackpot will be €2,800.00.

CHURCH NEWS: Eucharistic Ministers for Saturday February 9, Margaret O’Leary and Mary O’Neill. Ita O’Shaughnessy and Helen Meade for Sunday 10th. Ministers of the Word are Margaret O’Leary for Saturday and Pat McMorrow for Sunday.

On Friday last we celebrated the Feast of St. Bridget, and, as is customary people made their way to the Well in Kilbreedy to pay their respects and do the rounds throughout the day. We are very grateful to the Shier and kelly families who have facilitated the visitors to the Well through the years.

World Day of Prayer for the Sick 2013. The sacrament of Anointing for the sick and elderly will be celebrated on Friday 8th February at 7.30pm in St Joseph’s Church, O’Connell Avenue. Sacred music for the occasion will be led by Musica Sacra Chorale, a resource group for liturgical music in the Diocese, directed by Dr. Patrick J. McCormack. This celebration by candlelight, will consist of readings and prayers and will conclude with a Eucharistic Blessing for the sick with the monstrance and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

SOCIAL SERVICE CENTRE: The annual Church collection for the Social Service Centre takes place on Saturday and Sunday the 9th and 10th February. Your continued support is most appreciated.

ALZHEIMER SOCIETY:The Limerick Branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland will hold their monthly Carer’s meeting at the Mid-Western Regional Office, 2nd Floor, George’s Quay House, George’s Quay, Limerick on Wednesday 6th February From 7pm to 8pm. All are welcome.

Weekly Social Club; The Alzheimer Society of Ireland hold a Social Club for people with dementia and their carer, in a supported environment, which takes place each Tuesday morning in the Woodfield House Hotel, between 11am and 1pm. There is no charge to attend and tea and coffee are provided. Please phone Mary at 061-313456 if you would like to attend, or just call to Woodfield House Hotel on Tuesdays from 11am.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The next meeting of the Rathkeale and District Historical Society will take place at 8.30pm on Friday 8th February at the Community Arts Centre Rathkelae. The topic for discussion and the speaker is: The private lives of the Limerick gentry : 1860 – 1914, by Maeve O’Riordan, History Department in UCC. The talk will have a particular focus on the O’Brien family of Cahermoyle and the Spring Rice family of Mount Trenchard.

KILCORNAN NATIONAL SCHOOL:Registration for pupils wishing to enrol in Junior Infants in Kilcornan National School is now taking place.

An open day will be held on Thurs March 7th for all new entrants from 2 to 3pm.

Grand Parents day was held in the school last Friday. The large crowd of grand parents were were treated to a lovely display of song and music performed by teachers and students from all classes and was rounded off with a nice cup of tea and savouries. Well done to the staff and the parents council who organised a very enjoyable afternoon.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL: We will be hosting a fashion show in the Woodlands House Hotel on February 28. Kilcornan children who are interested in modelling for the show will require their parents / guardians consent before their names are entered into a draw for available places. Community Council Annual Party: The Community Council traditional Annual Party has been deferred to Sunday February 17 in the Community Centre. As usual it will begin with Mass in the Hall at 2pm. All our regular guests are invited and we hope to see some ‘’recently qualified’’ joining us on the day. Keep the date free to enjoy one of the highlights in our Parish. If you have not received your invitation please contact any member of the Committee of the Community Council.

MEETING RE PROPOSED CHANGES TO WEST LIMERICK RESOURCES: West Limerick Resources is holding a series of public meetings to highlight the potential impact of recent proposed changes by the government which could put the future existence of the local and community development company into question. The independent not for profit company is asking all members of the local community to attend one of its upcoming meetings to find out more and support its efforts to have the community’s voice heard in discussions on how these proposals are to be implemented. A meeting are scheduled to take place in Rathkeale Community Centre on February 11 commencing at 7.30pm. A final meeting will take place in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West at 8pm on February 13. All are welcome.

POINT TO POINT: Askeaton Point to Point will be held on Sunday February 10. The First Race will be at 1 pm. Bar and catering Facilities will be available throughout the day.
