END OF AN ERA : Thursday last 31 January 2013 marked the end of an era in Kilfinane with the closure of the local Garda Barracks. The move, was part of a nationwide restructuring plan which saw 95 Garda Stations closing on the same day, the closure had been signalled well in advance so the actual closure came as no surprise or shock to the local community last week. The station which had been manned on a part time basis for a number of years, where once there was a resident Garda Sergeant in the Barracks as well as three Gardai all resident in the town, how times have changed ! Garda McInerney will now be based in Kimallock, while there is also a site in the town which was purchased some years ago to build a new modern Garda Station. This is just another of the local community facilities that have been closed in Kilfinane over the years, the Creamery, Bank, Garda Barracks as well as a number of businesses which has changed the landscape of Kilfinane.
