With Local Government Minister Phil Hogan set to decide whether to amalgamate Limerick’s two local authorities shortly, Limerick City Council have accepted an invitation from Vistakon to meet at its premises in the National Technology Park.

Independent city councillor Kevin Kiely says he thinks the move is “inappropriate”, while county councillors Richard Butler and Kevin Sheahan have welcomed the move.

Mayor Maria Byrne has stressed she was invited out to hold a meeting at the facility following a Special Olympics fundraiser - and stressed Cllr Kiely should have made his feelings known at the City Council meeting when it was approved.

Monday’s meeting is due to begin at 2 o’clock on Monday afternoon.
