ANNIVERSARIES: On Sunday March 10, the noon Mass in St. Joseph’s Church will commemorate the late Kay O’Rourke and Lil and Jack O’Rourke, also Michael O’Byrnes.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: Invitation to join celebrations at ‘De Bucket’ Pub, Ferrybridge on Friday March 8 from 2.00pm to 4.30pm remembering the struggles of women, past & present. Make up demo, upcycling talk, light refreshments, and raffle included in cover charge of €10. This event is being organised by the Civil Defence Active Retirement members and all are welcome.
COUNTY COUNCIL LECTURE SERIES: The penultimate lecture in the present series is by Judith Hill, architectural historian and author. The title, ‘A Technological University on the Banks of the Shannon’, celebrates the forty year evolution of its success from English and American influences. The County Hall is the venue and Tuesday March 12 the date. 8.00 pm start.
GENEALOGY EVENT: A free event to consult the combined records of the Presbyterian and Methodist churches locally, including the Adare/Ballingrane registers and many school registers. This takes place at Christ Church in O’Connell St. Limerick to mark its 200 anniversary, on Saturday March 16 from 10 am. THE WIZARD OF OZ: Salesian College students are staging their adaptation of this tale for three nights from Thursday March 7. Admission for adults is €12, with concessions.
MICK HANLEY COMETH: Collaboration between the Community Council and the ‘Seven Sisters’ Pub, ensures an enjoyable evening with Mick on Sunday March 24. Tickets at a mere €10 from either the Pub, the P O or Mary at 087 6521806.
ANNUAL JOEY HANNAN RUN: Croom is again hosting this popular event which begins for walkers at 1.15 pm and runners at 2.00 pm on St. Patrick’s Day. Prize giving takes place from 3.30 pm and refreshments will be served. An ‘Irish Night’ will follow in Coláiste Chiaráin with a €5 entry fee.
BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE: Among the ICA members who participated in National Recruitment Day were Castletroy,Mainistir na Féile, Kildimo & Pallaskenry. Limerick ICA Federation also had a display at Limerick Milk Market and would like to say ‘go raibh maith agaibh’ to all who visited their stand.
COPSWOOD GAELS RFC: Sunday morning training continues at the usual venue. Plans for the trip to Athy are progressing and sponsor cards and remittances are due on March 9. All enquiries to the Club Secretary, Anthony O’Donovan at 086 1943962.
GAA LOTTO: The draw on February 25 for a Jackpot of €2,200 resulted in numbers 10, 13, 16 & 28. No members predicted this combination so ‘Lucky Dips’ of €50 were drawn by Bernadette McNamara, David Nealon, Tom O’Connor and Geraldine O’Connor.
GAA EVENTS: A Table Quiz is being held in the Dromore Inn on March 8. Such events are an important source of funding for the many activities of the club so your continued support will be welcome. Membership Fees for 2013 are now due. For adult players the fee is €40 with concessions for unemployed and students at €30. Social members and Under 16 are both €20 and the Family membership is €40. The mountain climb of Carrantuohill in aid of underage games takes place on Saturday March 23. Sponsorship cards may be collected from any club member and juniors must be accompanied. For all participants it would be wise to do some training for the event and have suitable outdoor /protective clothing for the occasion. THE GATHERING: A weekend full of events is planned on Friday 16, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August to welcome home family and friends to Kildimo to share in our heritage and culture. It is organised by the community organisations, clubs and businesses in the parish. The weekend will consist of Music, Barbeque, Shinty Game, Heritage Talks, Soccer and fun events and games for kids.
