KILFINANE CHURCH OF IRELAND CONSERVATION COMMITTEE : Kilfinane Church of Ireland Conservation Committee are holding a Monster 45 Drive on Thursday next 14 March at Scoil Pol Kilfinane commencing at 8.30pm. Price €10 per person with generous prizes and numerous spots on the night. Prizes on Tickets sold but not played. Please support this worthy cause. Light refreshments will be served on the night.

BEST OF LUCK : On this Saturday 9 March, local Athlete Edd Valatka will represent Scoil Pol in the Aviva All Ireland Schools Cross Country finals in Jordanstown Co. Antrim. Edd a memberof the Kilfinane AC has to date won Silver and Broinze in the North Munster and Munster Finals of the Schools Cross Country finals and is wished the Best of Luck on Saturday.
KILFINANE ATHLETIC CLUB : Ballycotton 10mile on Sunday 3 March Well Done to James Gubbins and Seamus Hourigan on fantastic runs in the Thirty Sixth Ballycotton 10 mile road race with James running an excellent PB time of 59:08 and Seamus completing the course in an impressive 65 minutes in challenging conditions. Sergiu Ciobanu of Clonliffe Harriers led the field of almost 2600 runners home in 49:17 to make it 3 in a row in this event. In the Womens Race Maria McCambridge was impressive winner in a great time of 54:59, a repeat of last years win. James and Seamus both who have shown huge improvements in their times in recent months, great to see that their hard work in training is paying off. Special mention to James on getting the much sought after top 100 T-Shirt .Great to see so many great performances by our neighbouring clubs in North Cork and Limerick, well done all!
Race 1 of Doneraile 5k Spring Series on 2 March : A crowd of over 200 runners enjoyed a perfect morning for running in the scenic grounds of Doneraile Park. It was great to see so many Juvenile runners taking part in this family friendly event. With many of the Kilfinane AC crew focusing on training and other events this weekend a small number of KAC runners participated in this race.
Of the club runners who did take part Sean Manning was Thirteenth overall and completed the course in 18:27, maintaining the good set of results achieved in recent weeks. Sean’s son Ruairi was first boy home in a very impressive time of 22:03 and Thirty Sixth overall. 3 of the beginners group kept up the momentum of recent weeks and really enjoyed the outing. Helen Fitzgerald O’ Sullivan completed the course in 28:28, Tina Hayes in 27:44 and Una Power 30:18. Well done all! A big Thanks to North Cork AC who were excellent hosts as always. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Race 4 of UL 5K Spring Series on 28 February :RACE 4 of the UL series had the strongest field to date with the first 2 recording very impressive times, David Richardson crossed the line first in 15:48 one second in front of Rory Sexton in 15:49.The Kilfinane AC contingent had an excellent outing with Ken Heelan leading the way with an excellent time of 17:46 finishing in ninth place. Ken’s brother Mike had another good outing and completed the course in 22:27. Sean Manning and Seamus Hourigan both knocked over half a minute off last weeks time with Sean finishing Fifthteenth in 18:03 and Seamus finishing Seventeenth in a time of 18:22. Agne Bulyceva clocked 23:41 which was a good improvement on last weeks performance. Upcoming Races : : Another busy week for club runners coming up next week.The Munster Senior & Novice 4 Mile Road Championships are taking place in Newtownshandrum on 10th March. Best of luck to the men’s and ladie’s teams taking part. Its been a remarkable year so far for Edd Valatka with, coming away from the North Munster and Munster Cross Country championships with silver and bronze medals. The next step of Edd’s journey is a trip to Jordanstown Co. Antrim to participate in the AVIVA All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country this Saturday 9 March . Best of luck Edd, we’re all behind you. As of this weekend 3 March, there are now less than 300 places left for the Mallow 10 mile road race which takes place on Monday the 18of March. The overall limit is 1200 places so it’s likely to sell out. If you are interested in running please enter asap. The next UL Thursday evening race takes place on next Thursday 14 March with no race this week. Training : Training in Dromin under Mike McAuliffes leadership has continued to see good numbers making training each Saturday and continues this Saturday in Dromin at 9.30 am.
