Meelick GAA: Meelick GAA Club are preparing for the first round of the U21 hurling championship which will see them take on Ballyea B in the preliminary stage of the competition. The game will take place on Sunday 10th March in Kilkishen.

Pitch Development: Parteen GAA Club thanked Joe O’ Connell and Pat Kinsella who did a great job sanding and spiking the pitch last weekend. The goal mouths on the main pitch were also redone and this work was carried out by Ned O’ Connor, Pat Cherry, Naoise Jordan, Ger Cunningham, Paraic Conlon, Jimmy Pierce and Martin Quinn. A spokeperson for Parteen GAA Club said “ It was a super job that will set us up nicely for the coming season”.

Club registration: Parteen GAA Club completed club registration in early February. There has been a huge uptake in new players (U6 & U8’s) joining the club. This is great news for the club. This, however, creates some new challenges. Parteen GAA Club said, “ We need more parents getting involved and helping out. Wednesday nights are where we need the most help. So, if you can spare 1-2 hours, can you sign up to help on Wednesday nights from 6-8pm if possible? Many thanks in advance”.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Club merchandise: Parteen GAA Club reminded its members that there is always a big demand for club merchandise for the St. Patricks Day Parade. If you need merchandise, you are asked to contact Niamh Cooney – (086) 6067725.

Easter Camp: Parteen GAA Club are running a hurling and camogie Easter Camp from Tuesday 2nd April to Thursday 4th April at Parteen GAA pitch from 10am to 1.30pm for primary school children aged between seven and twelve. The cost is thirty euro for your first child and twenty euro for every subsequent child. Places are extremely limited. To book, please phone Niamh (086) 6067725. All club players must be registered to attend.

Come Dine with me: Last week saw Sean Ahern go head to head with Mike Hopwood in the popular “Come Dine with me”, with Sean Ahern coming out on top in the latest round.

Community Games: Girls Gymnastics U9/U11/U13/U15 floor routines will be held in Parteen National School on Saturday 9th March between 11am-1pm. For registration and copies of routines, please contact Tanya 087- 6785469.

Parteen School Choir: Parteen School Choir won first prize in the Primary School Festival at the weekend.

Parteen School Principal Mr Philip Lavin said”this is a tremendous achievement where the standards were very high and we are all very proud of the fifty eight strong choir and their teacher Olivia Parkinson”. Mr Lavin also said that building work has started on the new classrooms at the School. There will be four new classrooms and everybody is hopeful that they will be ready for the new school year in September.

Art Competition: Elle O Mahony of Meelick School won a prize of 500 euro in the Munster Regional Final of the Road Safety Art Competition and goes forward to the final in Dublin on the 24th March. Glowing tributes were paid to Elle and her teacher Evelyn McGuane who sadly leaves Meelick this week to take up an assignment abroad.
