45 DRIVE: The winners of last week’s 45 Drive were: First prize of €220 went to Noel Morrissey & Noel Ryan. Second prize of €70 went to John Lynch & Davy Holmes. Third prize of €60 went to Liz Barron & Eamonn Cooke and Dan Shanahan & Kathleen Costelloe and Mrs Quigley & Nora Lonergan. Table prizes were won by Tom O’Malley & Mary Cooke and Jeremy Riordan & partner.
SONGS FOR WOMEN’S DAY: You are invited to come to the Muintir na Tíre Hall, Murroe, on this Friday, March 8 from 11-00 am to 1 pm to celebrate International Women’s day. Noirín Ní Riain, Marian Neville and Lucia Sheehan will teach songs from all over the world and you can come along and learn a new song or share yours! CHURCH NEWS: The following are the times for this year’s Easter ceremonies; Holy Thursday, Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be in Murroe and Boher churches at 7-30 pm, Celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday is in both churches at 3 pm and the Stations of the Cross at 7-30 pm. On Holy Saturday, the Easter Vigil is in both churches at 8 pm. Boxes of envelopes for the Offertory collection are available in both churches for anyone who would like to make a contribution to the upkeep of the church. The Chrism mass in the Cathedral in Thurles which used to be on Holy Thursday will this year be on Wednesday evening, March 27. The Murroe/Boher Invalid fund will hold a church gate collection on this coming weekend. The Cashel and Emly Diocesan Lourdes Draw will take place on this coming Saturday night and a number of tickets are still available from Liz Barron at 087 1543563.
MURROE AFC: The B team lost valuable points when falling to a 1-0 defeat away to Meanus. In the under-11’s premier league, Murroe lost out 2-0 away to Charleville. The under-15’s also lost away to Galbally. The under-12 girls fared better when drawing 0-0 away to Holycross. Ailish Reynolds, Cara Griffin, Roisin Crowe and Roisin Kinsella impressed. The under-14 girls stayed top of the table following a 5-3 victory away to Ballylanders. Sarah Jane Barry and Anna Madigan with a brace each and Lisa Leonard, accounted for Murroe’s tally in an exciting top of the table clash.
Finally, the club would like to thank everyone who contributed to our Church Gate collection last weekend. The total collected was €862.57 which is a fantastic amount. Thanks to the volunteers who manned the collection also.
MURROE-BOHER CAMOGIE: Murroe-Boher Camogie will be serving refreshments from 12-4 pm this Sunday, March 10, in the Muintir na Tire Hall. Please come down and support the club and have a cuppa, bun and a chat. Well done to the intermediates who continue their good start to the league with a well deserved 5 point win last Saturday in round 2 of the league against Clanmaurice. They are out in round 3 of the league on this Saturday, March 9, at 12 o’clock against Knockaderry. Please check their Facebook page or murroe.net for the venue. The club will be holding the Annual Table-Quiz on March 22 in Crokers, Murroe, at 8 pm. A table of 4 is €20 and there will be a raffle and music afterwards.
MURROE-BOHER GAA: The senior team played a challenge game against Ballina at Boher last week with the visitors winning by 1-17 to 0-7. Murroe/Boher lined out as follows; ,W Tobin, W Clohessy, J Dervan, J Keyes, E Walsh, J O’ Connor, B Mackey, P Tobin, D Byrnes, M Ryan, D Dunlea, M Dee, E Touhy, D Kett, P Walsh and the subs used were Billy Mulcahy & David Quigley. The team train on Tuesday night @ 7 pm in the Harty Park. Any activity planned for the weekend will be on the home page of Murroe Boher GAA website. For the Junior team, a new management team has been put in place. John Herbert, Fr. Lorcan Brennan, Michael John O’ Brien (Snr & junior team selector) and Colin Brouder will be working to bring Junior hurling honours to the Club in 2013. The Murroe/Boher U-21’s travelled to play Meelick recently in a challenge game and emerged strong winners by 2.18 to 1.09. This was a very encouraging start against a fancied Meelick side. The club is entering this grade at 12-a-side this year as player numbers cannot support a 15-a-side team. However there is enough ability in this panel to do very well. Under 21/minor team training for both teams will go ahead on Wednesdays at 7.30 pm in the Harty Park, Murroe. The under-16’s played Ballybricken in a challenge game also, with a positive result of 5-15 to 0-5. The team lined out as follows; Stephen Coughlan, Philip Hodgkins, Brian Timmins, Barry Cusack, Eoin Fitzpatrick, Finn Hourigan, Shane Quigley, Kevin Clohessy, Shane Mulcahy, Jack Barry, Killian Byrnes, Dillon O’ Connor, John Richardson, Jack Casey, Gavin Ryan and the subs and panel members were Aidan Quigley, Brendan Ryan, Cian Duffy, Matthew Hanly, Jake Shanahan, Jaden Keen, Eoin Hourigan, Liam Cunningham and Andrew Walsh. Players injured were Aaron Kennedy and Conor Byrnes. Killian Byrnes (4-3) and John Richardson (1-2) played well in the forwards, with support from Finn Hourigan & Barry Cusack standing out in the backs. Special mention goes to Shane Mulcahy who put in an explosive effort and was back to playing some of his best hurling. Under-12 training resumes on Friday evenings in the Harty Park and players will be texted closer to the day. For the Club Draw, collectors will be visiting all homes in Murroe and Boher and they are asking for you to please support your club.
FRENCH ARRIVING IN AUTUMN: The Murroe Twinning Group are hosting the French from Evry-Gregy this autumn. Anyone is most welcome to join! The group will be hosting a Cake Sale on this Friday and Saturday, March 8 & 9, across from the Church at the GAA Clubhouse. There will be various baked goods available. Remember Mother`s Day with the gift of a cake! Please stop by around 7 pm on Friday and noon on Saturday, to tantalize your taste buds.
