Rosie Ryan: Rosie Ryan nee Shanley passed away on 26 February 2013. Rosie Shanley was born on 23/10/1923 in Eyon, ,one of four children. Her father died when she was 12 and then the family moved into a house in Long Lane , Cappamore . She was an elegant lady and was selected “Queen of the Carnival” in Cappamore when she was 18. King of the Carnival on that occasion happened to be Mike Mooney, St Mary’s Terrace who is at present recovering in a nursing home in Tipperary.

In 1944 she married Sonny Ryan Frank, Bridge Street and they lived a happy life together with their family up until Sonny’s death on Show Day 1996 after 52 years of married life.

Rosie was a most industrious woman in the parish. She was a very active member and officer in the ICA for many years. She helped with the cleaning of the church. She was both artistic and crafty and gave knitting classes in the Convent School. She was renowned for her expertise in the garden and won Limerick Co. Council Roadside Award several years. And when Sonny was a mentor and officer with the Hurling club she was always available for flag making or mending jerseys. She was a member of the Bingo committee which raises the finances for the upkeep of the Community complex.

She had reached her 90th year and even though incapacitated for a number of years she still got up to Mass regularly and also visited one of her favourite haunts – Cappamore Daycare Centre.. She fought a good battle to the end and died at home in 1 St. Mary’s Terrace in the presence of her family and grandchildren. After Requiem Mass in St. Michael’s Church Rosie was laid to rest in Towerhill Cemetery. The Cappamore ICA guild and the Cappamore Development Association and the Bingo committee formed a guard of honour at her removal to the church on Wednesday evening and also after Requiem Mass on Thursday.
