O’DWYER’S BAR GOLF SOCIETY: The final outing of the year took place last Sunday in the majestic Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort. Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort features the last major golf course designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, Senior - his majestic design has gained international acclaim as one of his finest creations. An 18-hole Championship Course, it was opened in 1995. The exquisite parkland of the Manor demesne has been preserved with the challenging course set amid magnificent mature trees and incorporating many aquatic features including a 14 acre lake anchoring the front nine holes and The River Maigue which meanders through the entire golf course. In a warm balmy day thirty golfers took to the championship course for the much sought after Presidents Prize (Mr Dermot O’Dwyer). The last major of the year proved a tight affair where the battle for honours rested between Gerard Ryan and Joe Franklin. After a count back Gerard Ryan took the title with thirty eight points . Spare a thought for Joe who for the second successive outing had to settle with a runners spot. Mike Barry completed the winners rostrum with third spot on thirty three points. Joe Franklin gained some compensation as he was named the Tony Greene (Snr) sponsored golfer of the Year. The longest drive winner was Eamonn Ryan and nearest to pin winner went to Mike O’Brien. There was three winners on the 2s competition; Joe Franklin, Mike O’Brien and Dermot O’Dwyer. Well done to all members who participated in the 2013 outings which proved a great success also thanks to Tom O’Dea whose trojan work behind the scenes in making sure all outings were organised and completed. Thanks to the Captain, Vice Captain and President along with the committee for the smooth running of this years Society

GAA NEWS: Sunday saw Pallasgreen visit Caherconlish twice, first in the Minor Football County “A” semi-final where they faced Bruff, followed by the replay of the East Junior “B” Hurling final against Doon.
The first match saw Pallas take an early lead, by 1-2 to a goal, only to relinquish the lead to a strong running Bruff side who score 1-7 without reply to lead at half time by 2-7 to 1-2. The half time introductions of Brian Fanning and Conor Roche proved to be the galvinising factor for Pallasgreen, who had a much tighter defence in the second half restricting Bruff to a single point. An early 1-2 from Ryan Deere and a point from Darren Cosgrave brought the sides level, and from there Pallasgreen never looked back. Leading by three points in the last ten minutes Pallasgreen defended well to ensure their victory, with a final score of 3-8 to 2-8. They now face either Ballysteen or Na Piarsiagh in the county final. Scorers were: Ryan Deere 2-1, Darren Roche 1-2, Alan Cosgrave, Darren Cosgrave, John Ryan, Robert Laffan and Conor Roche a point each.
Subsequent to our victory in the Minor football our Junior hurlers took on Doon. In a game that was very even Doon took the victory thanks to their ability to put the sliotar in the back of the net. An entertaining first half saw Pallasgreen score eleven points only to find themselves behind by a goal to Doon who replied with 2-8. In the second half Pallasgreen got off to a good start with points from Shane Murphy and John Kirby only to find themselves five points behind due to a third goal. The team picked themselves up again and narrowed the gap, only for Doon to score their final, and winning, goal. Three injury time points put a gloss on the Doon lead who won by 4-14 to 0-19. Pallasgreen now face Blackrock in the county quarter final. Scorers were: Shane Murphy 0-9 (all frees), John Kirby 0-6 (2 frees, 1 “65”), Anthony Daly 0-2, Trevor Cosgrave and Conor O’Dwyer a point each.
