Limerick West GIY: Limerick West GIY with the aim of inspiring people to grow their own food is back indoors for the winter months as we return to D & M Garden Centre, Croagh on Thursday October 17 where the subject for discussion will be on Wild Foods along with all the usual topics.. The meeting will start at 7pm sharp and all are welcome from the beginner to the experienced old hand. As with all GIY meetings there is no charge to join in.

Bosco Tea Party: 11hth October 2013 at Salesian Secondary College, Pallaskenry: Our Parents Association is organising a Bosco Tea Party at our school on Friday, 11th October 2013 in the school hall at 8pm. A table of 8 costs €100. The host invites their guests to attend. They and/or their guests bring their own food, drinks, cutlery, glasses and we will provide tables, the atmosphere and live music entertainment with the Mad Hatters and DJ Nash. A great night is guaranteed to be had by all.

The theme of the night is Roaring Twenties so this is a chance to dust down the ‘Flapper’ dress and headpiece or a cloche hat, bobbed hair and perfect the ‘Charleston’. ORAL HISTORY TRAINING: West Limerick Resources will be running an Oral History Recording Training Initiative this autumn. Training will consist of two elements. Participants will develop Oral History Interviewing techniques as well as examine the legal and ethical issues relevant to gathering Oral History. The second element of the training will focus on digital voice recording and editing techniques. Training will also explore how oral history can contribute to the local heritage of communities and identify suitable ways of showcasing their research. Training is expected to begin in October and to run one evening per week for 10 weeks. The course is free of charge and open to people living in the West Limerick area. PROGRAMME ON MENTAL HEALTH: To mark World Mental Health Day (October 10th) a radio programme, produced by the staff of the West Limerick Primary Health Care Project for Travellers, will be aired by West Limerick 102fm on October 2nd after the 11am news. It will feature Thomas McCann from the Traveller Counseling Service and Aisling McMahon, Clinical Psychologist who recently completed a PhD thesis on mental health in the Traveller community.
