Afternoon Tea Dance: Afternoon tea dancing will resume at Fr. Casey’s Clubhouse in Abbeyfeale this Sunday October 13th. from 3.00 – 6.00 p.m. with music by the Seamus Sheehy Ceili Band. Admission €5. Teas served. All welcome. This is a fundraiser for AAA.
Knitting/Crochet/Embroidery Classes: Knitting, crochet and embroidery classes are held in the Adult Education Centre in Abbeyfeale which is in the old technical school every Tuesday night at 7.30 p.m. These classes which are free are given by experienced tutors in a friendly atmosphere with a cup of tea afterwards. Jazz Concert: A jazz concert will kick off in the Glorach community theatre in Listowel on Friday night 18th. October with a cheese and wine reception at 7.30 p.m. This musical extravaganza features the cream of local musical talent with Riona Curtin and Helen Hasenfuss performing ragtime, Mick O’Donnell and friends with their take on the gospel, and Rebecca Stryker and Laura Sheehy singing songs from the musicals. Mick Guinane will kick off the proceedings with his trumpet. Members of the Abbeyfeale youth theatre will perform and the second half is crammed full of jazz. An outstanding jazz quintet from Limerick will be closing the show. MC for the evening is Marian Harnett. Tickets cost €10 and proceeds from this event will be used to support the Glorach Community theatre. Arts Assembly: The Arts Assembly weekend will draw to a close in the GAA clubhouse in Abbeyfeale at 8.00 p.m. on Sunday October 20th. with a special performance from a variety of Abbeyfeale’s premier poets and players. This show which is entitled “Let us entertain you” will feature choice snippets from the plays The Chastitute, Dancing at Lughnasa, The Field, and Big Maggie. Thes are all performed by 16 members of the Abbeyfeale Drama Group. Dick Woulfe will take to the stage as the seanachai while Tom Lee becomes Hamlet. Be prepared for the hilarious antics of Katie Moloney in D’Unbelieveables and the appearance of Nicky Cotter as a D-list superhero. Special appearances on the night will include a recital by local poet Jackie Harnett. MC for the evening will be Richie Roche. Alzheimer Society: Anyone who can play a musical instrument and has a half an hour to spare once a week or once a fortnight or even once a month are asked to come along for a sing along in the Garryowen Day Care Centre for the Alzheimer Society Limerick Branch.
