SWALLOWS:The main body of swallows have left our shores, but a few, probably late hatchers were still in the sky over the past weekend.
JOYCE BROTHERS WEEKEND: In memory of the Joyce brothers who had strong connections with Glenosheen and Glenroe, a gathering weekend takes place on Friday and Saturday October 11 and 12. On Friday night in Glenroe Community Hall at 8pm, a commemorative plaque will be unveiled, guest Donnacha O Dulaing of RTE will attend and Trevor Joyce a descendant of the brothers will give the lecture, followed by a Q and A session and refreshments. On Saturday morning at 10am in Deebert House Hotel, there will be a lecture by Dr. John Fleming, Bishop of Killala, at 11am there will be a coach tour of Joyce Country, at 1.30pm people can avail of a light lunch at the Village Inn, Ballyorgan, the tour finishes in Kilmallock at 4pm, later at 6pm meet at Aras Mainchin Seoighe for a lecture by Dr. Liam Irwin. Dinner at Deebert House Hotel at 8pm followed by an evening of music and song, further information from the Hotel at 063-31 200.
WALKS: The last walks list for 2013 was issued recently to Ballyhoura Walking Club members, on Sunday October 13 the “A” walk will start from Glengarra at 11am, the “C” walk is also from the same point, same time, information 087-988 0367.
The night walks for the month of October are from Glenosheen at 7.30 on Thursday nights and the Saturday walks from Ardpatrick Community Centre at 11am.
