ROCKY MAYHEM IS BACK: The end of June is once again going to be fantastic. Spread over the last two weekends the line up shows just how far the Rocky Mayhem Festival has come in such a short space of time. By now you should have received your personal invitation outlining all the entertainment on offer, with the invitation was a postcard and we hope you have detached this and invited your friends and family too. There are still some invites in the local shops and bars if you unfortunately haven’t received yours yet. To date we know there will be visitors coming from not just all over Ireland but also the UK, Europe and even the U.S. Over the next few weeks we will be keeping you all up to date with all the news and gossip so keep an eye and an ear out for what’s going on. THANK YOU : Killian Lyons and his family would like to thank most sincerely everybody in Kilfinane, Kilmallock and the surrounding areas who helped raise funds for his recent very successful soccer trip to Madrid, we will never be able to thank everyone enough. Even though the soccer season is officially over, he will continue to train and play matches throughout the Summer with Coerver Ireland, with whom he travelled to Spain. For all those who have been keeping empty drink cans for us we would appreciate it if you could continue doing so as we hope that by doing this will raise the money needed for Killian’s trip to Germany next year with Coerver Ireland.
COMMUNITY GAMES : Skittles training continues on Thursday nights in Scoil Pol in the hardcourt area next to the outdoor basketball court from 7.45 to 8.30. Children must be over 10 and under 16 on 31st July this year, in order to be eligible to be on a team.
KILFINANE CHURCH OF IRELAND CONSERVATION FUNDRAISER : Kilfinane Church of Ireland Conservation Committee are holding a Fundraising ‘Chorals for Coins’ on Friday night next 31 May at The Church of Ireland, featuring Tipperary Gospel Choir, Jade Dillon, Richard Fitzgerald, Scoip Pol Choir, John Carrol (Trad) Pa Ahern (Comedian) with Alice, Marie and Caroline. The Show commences at 8pm Tickets €10 Adults, €5 Children., available on Door on night.
MINOR HURLERS RETAIN LEAGUE TITLE : For the Third year in a row the local Sean Og Hanley’s Minor hurling team (Blackrock/Glenroe) won the South Minor Hurling League final played on Wednesday 8 May in Kilbreedy when they defeated Killacolla Gaels (Castletown/Ballyagran Bruree) by 4.16 to 1.12 in a very cold conditions. The winning team was, Adrian O’Sullivan, Kevin O’Farrell, Josh Watson, John O’Carroll, Seamus Ryan, Dylan Dawson (0.1. 65), Sean O’Sullivan, Paudie Lawlor (0.2f), Adrian Cooke (0.01), Tom O’Dwyer, Brian O’Connell (Capt) (1.08), Dean Brazzill (0.02) Ben Soundy (1.0), Shane Lyons (1.0) Donnacha Leahy (1.01) Subs Darren McCarthy (0.01) for D. KILFINANE ATHLETIC CLUB : Silver for Edd in Munster Track and Field. It was another busy week for Kilfinane AC club runners with many participating in a range of events over the week, with great highlights including Edd Valatka’s continued success in Munster events and with Gary Egan breaking the sub 40 10k in style with a fantastic time of 38.44 in the Mungret 10k.
Best of Luck to James Gubbins who is running the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 26 May.
Munster Schools Track and Field Edd Valatka continues to add to his stack of Munster medals with a fantastic silver medal at the Munster Schools Track and Field Championships in CIT where he set a new pb of 1:59 over 800mtrs. Next race for Edd is AVIVA All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships Tullamore, Saturday 1 June. Well done Edd!
Limerick Senior Track and Field 16 May Great running by Paul Ryan who made the trip to UL where he competed in the 200 and 400 metres and warranted his reputation of being a mean machine over the shorter distance. Paul was Fourth in the 200 in 28 seconds and Fifth in the 400 in 62 seconds, great results and only 0.2 of a second off a bronze in the 200. Word on the ground is that many are saving themselves for this Thursdays events: 100m, 4x400, 1 Mile and 5000 mtrs.
Mungret 10k: There was a strong club representation at the Mungret 10k which where Gary Egan showed the benefits of consistent Interval training with a fantastic time of 38:44. Overall the club contingent had very strong performances with the following times posted. Gary Egan 38:44. Donnacha Enright 40:20. Seamus Hourigan 40:42. Paul Ryan 42:11 Edel Hennessey 49:03.. Off Road: Adrian Hennessey was back in action in the IMRA Leinster championship in which he ran the Annagh Hill race in Wicklow, no results to hand yet.Tina Hayes continues to inspire and completed the Carrauntoohill climb on Saturday in aid of the Aurelia Trust.
UPCOMING RACES: The Kilfinane AC 5 Mile takes place this year on Friday 21June at 7.30pm. On line entry is now available on Run Ireland. https://eventmaster.ie/ There has been great support so far and we’re looking forward to having our best race to date in terms of numbers and hosting a top 5 mile event.
