ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE: This year we are hoping that our St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be bigger and better than ever. The theme this year is the “Gathering”!! Collection point will be at the National School (Scoil Dean Cussen) from 2.30 p.m. with the parade starting at 3.00 p.m. A duck race will take place immediately after the parade at the park, with proceeds going towards the playground. A parade on St. Patrick’s Day will show that community spirit is still alive and well in this community and it is an occasion to celebrate our heritage and demonstrate to our Diaspora that all is well at home. So lets make this years parade our biggest and best ever!

BRUFF HERITAGE GROUP – THE GATHERING: As part of “The Gathering” Celebrations in Bruff (July 1st- 7th) an exhibition of correspondence over the years will take place. Bruff Heritage Group are trawling all avenues in search of letters, postcards ,Christmas cards telegrams etc. which would have been exchanged between the people of Bruff (and South Limerick generally) and other places near and far. Have you a letter or postcard which was sent or received, giving the news from home or away, be it large or trivial (we are particularly interested in trivia!), down the years?

We would love to hear from you and be assured that all items will be treated with the utmost care and respect. We will exhibit all letters in their entirety or part, depending on the wishes of the donor. Emails or enquiries can be made to tombulfin1@yahoo.ie mobile number: (00353863143772)

We feel this is a novel and relevant way to celebrate “ The Gathering” but it’s success depends on the response we receive so please get searching in those old boxes and cases!

BRUFF PLAYGROUND COMMITTEE: Bruff’s junior citizens are today welcoming their parents’ renewed focus on getting their long-awaited community playground built. With not one, but two mega-fundraisers in the pipeline along with a reinvigorated committee of new faces and focused energy, children are set to have some fun over the next three months whilst realising the new facility. First up there’s the Duck Race to take place on St Patrick’s Day – the goodwill and enthusiasm evident among mums, dads and grandparents for this one means “more than half of the seven hundred ducks in the race are already sold” said Chairman Valerie O’Donovan, herself a mother of triplets and key invigorator of the fresh appeal.

After this, entire families will “go greyhound-racing” for a thrilling Night at the Dogs at the Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Saturday 11th May. The programme for the night includes the valuable Roche’s Feeds Munster Oaks and features the auction of a greyhound pup specially selected by leading trainer Paul Hennessy. The novelty of the event plus the comfortable facilities at the stadium, with children under 16 going free, makes for “a very inclusive night out” said businesswoman and supporter Miriam Sadlier “and I’m looking forward to going with my kids”. This Night at the Dogs will, it is hoped, contribute a major portion of the €30k needed as matching funding, considering the LEADER funds already secured and monies raised over recent years. “Currently, we are completing the legal process for the final transfer of ownership of the site from Limerick County Council” Richard Leonard, Project Manager/Engineer, stated. “At the same time we are finalising the equipment selection and tidying up some details requested by the council during the planning process. Once matching funding is in place, I expect that the project can be completed” he assured parents and kids. The Community Council, welcoming the encouragement all along by Ballyhoura Development, reiterate that the playground “IS in sight now and we are pushing forward”.
