COMMUNITY GAMES NEWS: Our young people continue to have great enjoyment and success in their Community Games activities. Following on the recent medal success of the draughts teams, the under-12 chess team won their county final in Kilfinane recently and have now qualified for the Munster final in Tralee later this month. They will join the under-10 indoor soccer team already qualified for their Munster competition. Rugby under-11 had a great tournament last Saturday winning bronze medals while the cross country athletes had impressive medal haul with team gold medals for Boys under-11 and great individuals medal achievements from Dara Costello, Tom O’Hanlon, Maeve Fahy, Cathal Murphy, Peter O’Grady and Noel Brennan. Best of luck to Peter O’Grady who, as part of the Limerick under-13 team, progresses to the All Irelands in Athlone in May.

The annual church gate collection for ACM Community Games takes place at parish churches on Saturday and Sunday, March 23 and 24, and your support will be appreciated. Date for Diary: Athletics qualifiers will take place at Ahane GAA club on afternoon of Bank Holiday Monday, May 6. CASTLECONNELL N.S. PARENTS ASSOCIATION: “Thank you Castleconnell. A very generous 740 Euro was collected for our village school at the annual church gate collection which took place on March 2nd and 3rd. Funds collected help supprt our school in their activities such as the viodiversity project as well as upgrading the School’s information technology facilities. Much thanks due to all our helpers. AHANE GIRLS PLAY IN GAELIC GROUNDS: The Ahane girls got the opportunity to play in the Gaelic Grounds at half time in the Limerick Men’s Senior League Match v Carlow last Sunday. It was a great honour for the girls who played Oola in the mini game. The girls enjoyed the occasion and displayed an array of great skill and teamwork in testing conditions.

COUNTY UNDER-14 FOOTBALL: Congratulations to Katie Molloy, Aine Reynolds and Sine Hartigan, who were on the Limerick Panel that beat Waterford and drew with Tipperary in the Munster Championship.

AHANE UNDERAGE CAMOGIE: Ahane under age camogie is off to a busy start for 2013. While many of the efforts focus on preparations for the hosting of Féile Na nGael, all of the other squads are already back in training. The under-14 Féile squad returned to training in the week’s after Christmas and had their first match of the year when travelling to Ballinacurra for a friendly against Treaty Gaels. The match presented a great opportunity to both sets of players to clean off the cobwebs that have developed since their last competitive outings. For Ahane the panel included Emma Ridder, Ciara Macken, Aimee Tuohy, Aoife O’Halloran, Orla Twomey, Niamh O’Curry, Sine Hartigan, Sinead Callinan, Aisling Herbert, Aine Reynolds, Katie Molloy, Aisling Twomey, Emily Knapp, Ellen Minihan, Daena Ryan, Sinéad O’Curry, Ciara Greaney and Ailish Reynolds.

UNDER-12 TRAINING: The Ahane under-12s are training on Wednesday nights from 6.00pm to 7.00pm, in St Vincent’s, Lisnagry. Under-14s are on Monday nights in Newport hall from 7.00pm to 8.00pm and the under-16s are training on Tuesday’s from 7.00pm to 8.00pm, in St Vincent’s, Lisnagry.

CASTLECONNELL AHANE GUILD OF THE ICA: The Guild members held their monthly meeting in Lisnagry National School. Auther, John Phayer gave them a very interesting and informative talk on the general technology computer structure.The next meeting will take place on Wednesday next, with an Irish theme. All new members are very welcome.

FREE COMMUNITY GARDEN TRAINING WORKSHOP: The Environment Department of Limerick County Council in association with the Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival and Eco - Unesco are delighted to announce that a “Free Community Garden Training Workshop” will be held at the Exhibition Space, Dooradoyle Library (near The Crescent Shopping Centre), on Wednesday next, from 9.30am to 3.15pm. The workshop is suitable for anyone involved in community and or youth work, Tidy Towns, etc. Places are limited and booking is essential.

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Training will be provided by ECO UNESCO.
