KNOCAINEY AFC MATCH REPORT: U10 Knockainey vs Herbertstown & Charleville 2nd March. Our under 10 team traveled to UL again this week to play Herbertstown and Charleville. We went down in both games 2-0 but we could not have any difficulty with our players as they all gave it their best. We tried some new positions and we did learn a lot from these games. David O’Donovan was outstanding at centre half with Rory O’Donnell and Kevin Lynch on either side of him. Liam Brosnan was not to blame for any of the goals. Sean Hickey came in for Kevin Lynch and Cameron Mallory came in for Rory O’Donnell. Geoffrey Joy O’Regan and Colin Buckley had two great games in mid field with Sean Keane and Eoin Cleary showing their skills on the wings. Dillon Laffan and Aidan O’Riordan were feeding off scraps but were unlucky not to score. Well done to all involved and see you at training on Wednesday evening.

Div. 1B Knockainey A 1 Charleville 1, 3rd March. The reverse fixture turned out to be a high drama game with our lads coming out on top of a free flowing 5 goal encounter but unfortunately this game never got off the starting blocks and this was mainly due to the man in the middle.

We started the brighter and a cross from the right by Liam O’Shea was misread by the keeper and he parried it out to the on rushing Jonathan Cosgrave who chested to the net. We dominated the rest of the first half and Charleville failed to threaten our goal until a tangle of legs between Mark Hartigan and the centre forward resulted in a penalty that was converted to leave it 1-1 at the interval.

Charleville came more into the game in the second half but we still managed to create the best chances but were unlucky on each occasion with our shots. The game finished level at a goal each and we will be disappointed not the take all 3 points but it was played in a fine sporting fashion and both teams will be wondering why 9 yellow cards came from at the end and their manager sent to the dressing rooms.

Squad: Malachy Hayes, Padraic Barron, Mark Hartigan, Noel Hickey, Ricky Hartigan, Liam O’Shea, Ed Dooley, Nigel Finch, Shane Finch, Jonathan Cosgrave, Nick Hayes, Kevin Moloney, Rory O’Connor, Darren Connery & Michael Meehan.
