THE LATE RITA BARRETT: The death occurred on February 28 in London of Margaret (Rita) Barrett (Nee Harrington) formerly of Upper Cork St. Mitchelstown. The late Rita had b een living in London for many years. She was predeceased by her husband William (Ballyarthur) Mitchelstown. There was a large and represented attendance at the removal on Saturday evening from O’Brien’s Funeral Home Mitchelstown to the Parish Church and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Sunday. Interment took place to trhe adjoining cemetery. To her sons Kevin, David and Gerald, sister Anna (Timmins) daughters in law Irene and Fiona, grandchildren James, Freya, Johnny, nieces, nephews, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives and friends we tender our sincere sympathy.

COOKERY DEMONSTRATION: There will be a monster Cookery Demonstration at T.O. Park Knockadea on Wednesday March 20. It is in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation and other charities. Chef on the night will be Frank Moynihan. It start at 8pm.

YOUTH 2000 RETREAT: All young people between the ages of 16 & 35 are invited to the Youth Retreat in Mount Mercy College, Model Farm Road Cork from Friday March 22 to Sunday March 24. This is a great opportunity to explore and develop your faith and its struggles with other young people. If anyone is interested just go along for the week end or part of it. FUNDRAISING CLOTHING DAY: St Fanahan’s College Parent’s Council are having a Fundraising Clothing collection. Bags can be dropped to St Fanahan’s College from now up to April 18 during school hours.

EMIGRANTS DISPLAY: Peter Robinson emigrant ships display now at the Library Mitchelstown until February 23. It depicts 1825 emigration of farmers and workers from the parish of Mitchelstown, Brigown, Templetenny to Ottawa to make a new life.

MITCHELSTOWN GAA: Our Under 21 A footballers received a bye into the Avondhu Under 21 AFC semi final. They will meet Clyda Rovers on Saturday March 23. The winner will meet Fermoy/Kilshannig/ Mallow or Charleville in the final probably Easter week end.
