KILFINANE ATHLETIC CLUB: County four Mile Championship The first club event of the year took place in Rathkeale last Sunday 26th. Our men’s team of Vincent O Donnell, Martin Hennessy, Greg Ryan and Joe O Brien competed strongly but came up just short of a bronze team medal. Edel Hennessy and Siobhan Colclough were our representatives in the women’s race. Both runners put in good performances in what was a strong field.. Juvenile Training : It was fantastic to see such a large turnout of kids last Thursday. There is clearly a large pool of athletic talent to be found in Kilfinane. However, as with all athletic clubs we do need to register juveniles with Athletics Ireland so that we can progress with official training. With this in mind, we have taken the decision to reschedule the start of our athletics program until mid February. As a club, we want to provide the best possible program for the young athletes who turned up and took part in training. A letter and registration form will be distributed to the pupils of Kilfinane NS during the week. It can also be emailed to any parent via kilfinaneac@hotmail.com. Adult Training : Alongside the kids training, there is also our normal training from 7- 8pm on Thursday evenings. No matter what level of fitness, everyone is welcome to attend. We are hoping that the beginners who started training with us will continue working towards the fit for life 5k in Ballygiblin on Sunday February 23. As with every week, we really would encourage anyone who wants to start out running to join us for a training session and see how you get on. Trail Run Sunday 9 February : We are hoping to have a training run around the scenic trails of the Ballyhoura’s. Full details will be published next week but we will have a range of distances from 3 miles to 14 miles.
