From time to time we invite members of the Gardai and Security Officers and Community Activists to give advice on a variety of topics. They are most anxious to attract new members over fifty who can be collected by bus or come along any Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock. The organiser Mary Hayes can be contacted on 086 6006631.

Death: The death occurred recently in Kilkenny of Parteen native Martin Fahy who was a prominent member of the 1945 Ardnacrusha Hurling team that won County . He emigrated and lived in Harelsden, London for many years and was predeceased by his wife and is survived by two sons and one daughter. His brother Michael and sister Ann survive him and he was predeceased by his brother Eamonn. Team Manager Declan Sherlock has been appointed Manager of the Meelick Intermediate Hurling Team and he will be confirming the rest of his Management Team in the coming days. Declan was recently elected Club Chairman and was on the panel of the Clare Team defeated in the 1989 All Ireland Final.

Declan is very popular among the players having coached them in various under age grades over the years and is anxious to restore pride in the Meelick Jersey and to instill discipline and team work into his charges and training sessions are already taking place.

PAM Walkers Club: Parteen Ardnacrusha and Meelick Walker’s Club meet every Monday evening at 7.30 p.m. sharp. They meet at O’Driscolls Car Park Corbally during the winter months and those interested in joining can come along any Monday at 7.30 p.m.

Parteen GAA: Lotto took place on Sunday January 26 at Browne’s lounge for a jackpot of €20,000.

Numbers drawn were:02,12,20and25. There was no overall winner. Lucky dip winners were:Peter McCarthy Ardnacrusha; Dominic Reilly, Meelick; Liam Pillion Esker, Athlone; Val & Margaret c\o Clancys Foodstore Parteen; Johnny Quinn c\o Meelick Tavern and Angela Nash c\o Ardnacrusha PO.
