GAA SOCIAL: Mitchelstown GAA Social took place on Friday night last in the Firgrove Hotel
There was a very large attendance present. Amongst the guests were Denis Twomey Avondhu Secretary, Paudie Palmer Co Sound, Larry Tompkins Coach and Niall Cahalane who presented the medals. The Junior A footballers who won the Avondhu-Imokilly JAFL as well as Divisional and Co honours in/ 2013 were presented with their medals. They will compete in the Co IFC in 2014. The first competitive game of the year will be against Mallow in the Brennan Cup semi final within the next week.
TENNIS CLUB AGM: There was a good sized attendance at Mitchelstown Tennis Club AGM at the Firgrove Hotel on Friday night. Chairman Ciaran O’ Kennedy presided. Mr Kennedy in his address thanked all who helped with the smooth running of the club during the past year. Veronica O’ Keeffe secretary presented a very detailed report which showed the club to be very active and progressive. The financial report was also in great detail and was presented by the Chairman. GENEALOGY:Mitchelstown Library will host a free fun workshop in genealogy on Saturday February 15 at 10am. Mallow College offer night classes on How to trace your family tree’. It starts on Monday night next and will run for 8 weeks from 7pm to 9pm The course programme offers online and off line ways to forensically explore your family history. RUGBY: Mitchelstown Under 18 Rugby side had a good win over Bandon in Bandon on Saturday. The final score was 22 to 7. COMMUNITY COUNCIL: Mitchelstown Community Council were recently honoured for their hard work and dedication as they were awarded second place in the best large town category for the 2013 pride on our community awards. The award was achieved for their work on the Ballinwillin wall, which was lying derelict for more than 20 years. The work was carried out as a joint project between the community council and AROMA. Sincere thanks is expressed to all who helped in achieving this prestigious award.
FASHION SHOW: CBS Primary Parent’s Council will present their 28th annual Fashion Show at the Firgrove Hotel on Friday March 7 at 8pm Models by Hilary Thompson and some ‘Familiar Faces’ Local stands will be on display.
