BORO BRIGADE: As membership continues to grow, training for walking members will be held every Tuesday at 8.00pm in the sportsfield, and for running members at 8.00pm on Wednesdays. Training on Saturday will be divided into two sessions, 8.00am and 9.30am.

MOYVANE SENIOR BADMINTON: Three mixed teams played matches during the week and all three won. Division 3s played Kingdom away and won 5-2. The team was Helen Browne, Jeanelle Griffin, Carmel Hudson, Kevin Kennelly, James Sheehan and James Flaherty.

Division 4s played Listowel away and won 5-2. The team here was Eleanor Sheehan, Krystle Crowley, Eileen McCarthy, Jamie Elliott, Timmy Hanrahan, Timmy Noonan and Paudrig Kearney. The Division 5s, Michelle Corridan, Suzanne Keane, Fiona Casey, Brian Griffin, Liam Corridan and Micheal Nolan played County away and won 4-3. The Kerry Divisions 1, 3 and 5 Singles championships were held in Killarney on Sunday. The Division 3 Men’s Final was an all Moyvane decider with James Flaherty defeating Kevin Kennelly. In the Division 5 final Michelle Corridan was finalist. In Division1 Dermot Keane and Denis Buckley reached semi finals stage, Denis being unlucky to meet defending champion Tom Burke who went on to win again. Another great week for Moyvane badminton, well done to all. Best wishes to the Tarbert Comprehensive U16 team which contests the Munster Finals in UL on Thursday.

LADIES FOOTBALL: The Clubs medal presentation took place in the Marian Hall on Saurday, January 25. The medals were presented by Paddy Curtin and Shane Enright who gave plenty encouragement to the young footballers. Last year was a great year with the u16s winning the Division 3 North Kerry, the U14s winning Division 4 County League and North Kerry Division 3 Plate and the U8 and 10s winning some blitzs.Well done to all the players and mentors and the parents for all their help throughout the year. Looking forward to another good year .

MOYVANE/KNOCKANURE COMMUNITY GAMES: The year is beginning with music, singing, choir and dancing in Abbeydorney on Saturday & Sunday, February 01/02. Badminton is on in Moyvane on Saturday, February 08 at 10.00am. Boys U10 soccer is on Sunday, February 09 in Listowel Community Centre/Mountcoal. Boys U13 soccer is on Sunday, February 16. Art U8 - U16 and handwriting U10 Boys/Girls is on in Listowel on Saturday March 01. We wish our Competitors the best of luck in their competitions.

KNOCKFIERNA HERITAGE SOCIETY: On next Saturday, February 01, Minister for Arts, Culture & Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenehan will visit Knockfierna at 2.30pm. Mr. Deenehan will launch a guide brochure of Knockfierna which shows famine roads, potato ridges which are still intact since the famine of 1847. All are welcome for this very unique occasion. The afternoon will be followed by entertainment at the Rambling House.

DEATHS: Unfortunately we have had a lot of deaths recently but one really rocked the parish and that was the death of Eileen Collins of Glin Road, Moyvane. Eileen, who was in her fifties, appeared to be in good health right up to Christmas and was looking forward to the wedding of her son Shane on January 07. She was admitted to hospital just before the wedding and was allowed out for a few hours on the day. She passed away on Monday, January 20 at Kerry General Hospital. Her funeral Mass was held in the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane on Thursday, January 23 with burial in Ahavoher Cemetery. Eileen who was a native of Annascaul is survived by her husband Jimmy, son Shane, daughters Carmel and Catherine, her mother Kathleen, her son-in-law James, daughter-in-law Rimma, grandson Liam and extended family.

The death also took place of Maighréad Scanlon nee O’Callaghan of Ballinamanagh East, Clarinbridge, Co. Galway and formerly of Knockanure Village. She was predeceased by her husband Tony Scanlan and is survived by her daughters Elizabeth, Pádruigín and son Billy, grandchildren , brother Fr. Brendan and extended family. Requiem Mass was held on Monday, January 20 at Corpus Christi Church, Knockanure followed by burial in Ahavoher Cemetery. Knockanure.

This week Eileen Galvin nee Relihan of Leitrim East, Moyvane and formerly of Knockeragh, Listowel passed away. Eileen was predeceased by her husband Brendan, sons Gerry and Pat, and sister Josephine. She is survived by her sons John, Tom, Eddie and Mike, daughters-in-law Chris, Kathleen, Deirdre, and Patricia, brother Eamon, sisters Phil and Lulu, grandchildren and extended family. Funeral Mass was held in the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane. on Sunday, January, 26 followed by burial in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane.Sincere sympathy is extended to all the families.
