KENRY HISTORICAL SOCIETY: Members and friends of the local History Society were treated to a very interesting talk on ‘Crime and Popular Protest in West Limerick’ lately by Dr. Gerard Curtin. Gerard has spent much time studying the available records in relation to this topic and his portrayal of the social conditions in West Limerick in the twenty five years prior to the famine cast much light onto this dark and disturbed era. His book of the same name as above is available from the author and any local persons who are interested in crime and protest in the area of Kildimo, Kilcornan, Pallaskenry and Ballysteen, will find much to interest them in its pages. The Faction Fighting and families involved in this diversion feature largely in his work and it may well be that your family are among its numbers, that is if its members survived the violent skirmishes that took place especially in Kildimo and Stonehall. Gerard’s work is available from the author at 087 6275560.
