MATCH REPORT – DESMOND LEAGUE LADIES U14 DIVISION 1: Adare United 3, NCW 0. Adare Utd – defending their 100% record – welcomed NCW to Deer Park which was in great condition for the time of year. On what was a dry but dull morning both teams played a very sporting and skilful match in front of a large crowd. Adare got off to a bright start with lots of interplay in midfield between Amy, Aoife Hickey, Orla and Hazel.
Adare’s first goal came from a fine break by Adare and a cracking, rising shot from Shannon hit the roof of the net giving the NCW goalie no chance. Adare’s back four of Lauren, Gillian, Kate and Sive coped well with the NCW attack. When called upon, Kristina was equal to the challenge and had some fine long clearances to restart the Adare attack. Late in the first half a fine run by Orla deep into the NCW penalty area drew a foul from the NCW defence. The resulting penalty was coolly slotted home by Shannon to the corner of the net. At half time, NCW changed formation and Adare responded withdrawing Amy to defence and moving Lauren to midfield. Almost immediately, Lauren broke forward and fired a left-footed shot at the NCW goal.
Their goalie produced the best save we’ve seen all season diving full-length to deny Lauren a goal. Adare continued to push forward and Edel almost added another for Adare. Aisling and Jessie were introduced to the defence mid-way through the second half. Mid-way through the second half, Aoife Hickey went on another fine run and squeezed in a third for Adare from a tight angle. Aoife Mulyneaux and Ciara came on and battled hard in midfield until the final whistle. Scorers : Shannon Parbat (2) and Aoife Hickey. Adare’s squad for the match – Kristina O’Brien, Gillian O’Donnell, Aoife Mulyneaux, Sive O’Halloran, Orla Kelliher, Kate O’Farrelly, Ciara Moroney, Lauren Ryan, Hazel Alfred, Aisling Smyth, Aoife Hickey, Amy Harnett, Edel Keliher, Jessie Shire-Williams and Shannon Parbat. Trainer: Eoin Ryan. Manager: Eithne O’Riordan.
