Two held after man badly injured

A man and a woman have been arrested over an assault in which a man suffered serious head injuries.

The 40-year-old victim was attacked after a row at a house in the Rathcarrig area of Fermoy, Co Cork, on Saturday night.

The alleged assault took place at around 8.30pm.

The arrested man and woman, both in their mid-20s, were detained at the scene and were being held at Fermoy Garda Station.

Gardai said the man was taken by Ambulance to Cork University Hospital and the scene of the attack was preserved for a technical examination.
