MUSIC lovers will have a chance to enjoy some superb singing next week and to enjoy the friendly surrounds of Broadford village at the same time.
Cork’s ever-charming and powerful soprano Cara O’Sullivan will be the headline act at a concert in the Broadford Community Centre on Friday, June 6.
But she will be joined by a trio of other superb musician/singers for a programme which, the organisers believe, will be memorable.
Concert harpist Una Whyte, tenor Seán McGann and baritone Martin Gleeson will also perform on the night which begins at 8pm. But, promises Mary Lee Geary, there will be a wine and cheese reception at 7.15pm to ensure a prompt start and of course to add to the occasion.
The Broadford Development Association is promoting the concert, which is a fund-raiser for the association’s many projects but is also a very welcome addition to the annual social calendar in Broadford which traditionally also includes a musical.
Tickets for the concert cost just €20 and funds raised will go towards developing a community garden in the village.
“We are doing community raised beds,” Ms Lee Geary explained. “We are also putting in water butts to conserve water which will be used in the garden and for the hanging baskets.”
They want to be prepared for next year when water will be metered, she added, pointing out that it would not be fair then, to be popping into people’s houses to hook up the hose or fill the watering cans.
Tickets are available at the post office in Broadford, at Moloneys or by ringing Mary on 06384019 or 087-7419344.
“Tickets will also be available at the door on the night but we would advise people to at least book in advance,” Ms Lee Geary said.
The concert will begin promptly at 8pm
