“MARIAH Carey may make an appearance in some way shape or form,” laughs David Blake of the Brad Pitt Light Orchestra.
No, the special guest at the Limerick band’s annual ‘Christmas love-in’ Upstairs in Dolan’s next week won’t be the warbling songstress, but rather The Elective Orchestra, old pals and label mates of the BPLO.
However, Mr Blake, ably accompanied by siblings Ann and James and their cohort of vaudevillian bandmates - devilishly talented musicians all - have been known to bash out a version of Mariah’s classic All I Want For Christmas, and this December 27 will be no different.
“It will be great fun, we are really looking forward to it and it is really the best way to work off the excess of Christmas and St Stephen’s Day by coming down to us to dance the night away,” explains David.
After a “wonderful year” of touring and singing music by Leonard Cohen and Van Morrison in Irish with Liam O Maonlai, the BPLO are back to their own tunes and bringing seasonal joy with this popular annual gig.
Joining them on the night will be the Elective Orchestra, the ringleader of which - Nick Carswell - has been based in Kansas for the last number of years, working on some brilliant new material, some of which should be on show in Dolan’s.
“Nick will be back and indeed will be back with the BPLO for the night too, so it will be all very emotional and festive,” adds David.
Doors for the gig open at 9pm and tickets are €10, while there will be mulled wine on offer for those who arrive early. Enjoy and Happy Christmas from us all here at the Limerick Leader!
