IN a year in which they will celebrate 20 years in business with several high profile gigs, Limerick’s Dolan family are on ‘a high’ after winning a top IMRO award.
The team behind the successful venue Dolan’s took home a special commendation for Hot Press Live Music Venue of the Year at the IMRO awards last week.
In presenting the award, Hot Press editor Niall Stokes paid tribute to Dolan’s and fellow special commendation honourees, Coughlan’s in Cork.
“Great venues are really important in creating scenes and both Dolan’s and Coughlan’s fit that description perfectly,” he said.
“Live music is more important than ever for musicians and bands – so it is crucial they they have the best possible venues to play in,” he added.
Mick Dolan said winning the award was “brilliant - we are delighted, we are still celebrating”.
“It is great to win 20 years on,” he said, a reference to Dolan’s Bar opening in 1994, followed in 1998 by the Warehouse.
“Everybody around is on a high and with Limerick being City of Culture - and we are doing stuff with them - it is great to have that in the city.”
The Dolan’s boss said they were planning a “big party” and “a sequence of gigs” - up to six or more over 2014 - in both the Big Top and on the Dock Road to mark the 20 year anniversary through the year.
“It is an exciting year ahead,” said Mick, who explained that full details would be unveiled soon.
