ACCLAIMED soprano Ailish Tynan will return to Limerick as the special guest of the Irish Chamber Orchestra for a very special Christmas concert.
The singer, a Rosenblatt Recital Prize winner and a leading singer on the world stage who regularly performs in Wigmore Hall, in Covent Garden and the Royal Festival Hall, will perform with the ICO in the stunning surrounds of St Mary’s Cathedral on December 17.
The ICO’s A Scandinavian Christmas will feature works by Corelli, Scarlatti, Rautavaara, Grieg, Moraeus and traditional, festive standards such as the Swedish carol Sankta Lucia plus We Wish You A Merry Christmas and Oh Holy Night.
A concert will also take place in St. Paul’s Church, Mullingar, Tynan’s home town, with ICO director Katherine Hunka taking charge of proceedings.
The soprano was in Limerick earlier this year for a star turn in the Lime Tree with the Callino Quartet to perform Schoenberg’s Quartet No.2 for string quartet and soprano, a piece that changed music forever and caused consternation on its first performance in Vienna in December 1908.
In St Mary’s, she will sing a selection of Grieg’s love-songs and his Holberg Suite, before concluding the programme with a selection of Christmas carols, starting with the carol Koppangen.
Tickets are available direct from the ICO. See www. irishchamberorchestra.com.
