MEXICAN acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela will play their first gig in Limerick in over seven years this July.
The high profile duo will make their Big Top debut with a show in the Milk Market on Monday, July 13.
Tickets for the show - an exclusive Irish date for the popular duo this year - will go on sale this Thursday at 9am.
“I’m delighted to welcome Rodrigo and Gabriela back to Limerick, we have been chasing them to play the Big Top for a few years and are ecstatic that they will play an exclusive date with us,” said Neil Dolan of bookers Dolan’s.
While currently living in their native Mexico, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero were discovered in Ireland while busking on Grafton Street at the turn of the century, with Damien Rice instrumental in their discovery.
But it was Rodrigo y Gabriela’s spell binding and telepathic musical ability that quickly won them both fans and acclaim, with the duo going on to release five studio albums, three live albums and one EP, touring the world and playing for President Barack Obama at the White House and becoming one of the biggest selling acoustic instrumental acts in the world.
Their many gigs in Dolan’s over the years were legendary, most notably one of their final shows over seven years ago when they included video cameras on their guitars in an incredible audio-visual performance.
The guitar slingers will join a bill of shows that also includes Hudson Taylor and Nathan Carter who both play on the May Bank Holiday weekend in the Milk Market plus Villagers on Sunday, May 24 and the returning The Waterboys on October 30.
