THE sun shone and waves crashed in Presentation Primary School as 120 children performed songs from around the world with the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

After six months work with ICO outreach officer Kathleen Turner through the innovative World Carnival music project, the children, from junior infants to third class, performed this Tuesday morning.

The Winter Beach Party celebrated the school’s multi-culturalism, with 17 different nationalities among the performers.

“It was great, I was so proud of them, they did a fantastic job, they really sang their heart and souls out and the atmosphere was amazing,” said Kathleen after the concert.

“We had songs from all around the world, all in and around the idea of holidays and celebrations.

“They really celebrate the cultural make up of the school and encourage the kids to explore and chat about their diversity and that is a really gorgeous thing.”
