STAR of stage and screen Jason Donovan comes to Limerick this Friday night for a special one off performance in the UCH, where the Aussie sensation will be joined by a cast of local stars.
John Brannoch, Shonagh Daly, Nigel Dugdale, Jean McGlynn, Amanada Minihan and Liam O’Brien will all join the Neighbours and West End star on stage at Limerick’s Dream Will Do this Friday night, a City of Culture backed event masterminded by the team in the Concert Hall.
The gig will celebrate Limerick’s proud musical theatre pedigree, both at home and abroad, with the experienced local crew joining the soap star on stage to a glittering array of songs.
Jason told the Limerick Leader this week that he was “looking forward” to spending some time in Limerick.
“It’s always great coming to Ireland because everybody is so warm and welcoming. That warmth combined with the show is sure to make a fantastic evening,” he said.
Referring to the coterie of local stars that will join him on stage this Friday, the Australian star said: “I am looking forward to it, it’s always nice seeing the talent that different cities have to offer and it will be fun to get up there and be part of the show.
“Obviously this show is celebrating Limerick’s City Of Culture so I’ll be performing a couple of musical numbers along with a selection of my well known hits,” he added.
Donovan has been reborn in recent years as a darling of the West End given his roles in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, The Sound of Music and a UK tour of The War of the Worlds.
“I do love being in musicals and I definitely had a great experience playing Joseph,” he said.
“It’s hard to pick a favourite as I enjoy all of the shows I’ve been part of in different ways. Priscilla was a really fun to be in as it’s full of big sing along tunes and I found it particularly enjoyable because it’s an Australian story.”
Expect a choir and full live band, the cream of musical theatre songs together with the very best Jason Donovan hits.
MC for the festivities is Limerick man and former Mr World Kamal Ibrahim, now a presenter on RTE’s Winning Streak.
