Africa Day in Limerick to showcase communities

CITY Hall is the place to be this Saturday, as a free family carnival takes place on the shores of the Shannon to mark Africa Day.

CITY Hall is the place to be this Saturday, as a free family carnival takes place on the shores of the Shannon to mark Africa Day.

Limerick will enjoy some of the sights, sounds and flavours of its African communities as a series of events celebrating African culture take place this Saturday from 12pm-6pm on the grounds of City Hall.

Irish supergroup Kila join a music line-up that includes the African Gospel Choir, the Lace Soukous Band and Limerick’s own Random Acts Of Kindness.

Seven teenage bands from Music Generation’s Band Explosion project kick off the afternoon, followed by a short performance by the Limerick City Children’s Choir.

After Random Acts of Kindness and charismatic MC Godknows perform, The African Gospel Choir will take to the stage, followed by Kila, one of Ireland’s most innovative and exciting bands.

Congolese party band The Lace will also perform at the event, a City Council initiative to aiming to “promote a positive image of Africa”.
