IRISH chart toppers Kodaline and UK dance act Basement Jaxx have been unveiled as headliners for the upcoming Indiependence Music and Arts festival in Mitchlestown.
The festival celebrates its tenth birthday this year and has duly delivered a strong line-up that also includes Ash, the Mark Lanegan Band and The Dandy Warhols.
The July 31-August 2 held festival takes place in Deer Farm, Mitchelstown - just 45 minutes drive from Limerick - and is the brainchild of UL graduate Shane Dunne.
Securing the services of festival floor-stompers Basement Jaxx and arguably the biggest Irish band of the past 12 months in Kodaline is quite a coup for Dunne and his team, who have been quietly growing the 5,000 capacity festival into a leading light on the Irish music calendar, taking home numerous best festival awards in recent years.
Embrace, Foy Vance, The Academic, All Tvvins and the Original Rudeboys also join a bill that includes Jape, Gavin James, Admiral Fallow, Little Hours, The North Sea, Wyvern Lingo and The Flaws.
Shane Dunne told us in the aftermath of last year’s festival that there would be a “plan in place” for the tenth anniversary and his team has delivered a strong initial line-up.
“There is no real plan to grow it, it is doing well, people enjoy it. In general we are happy, we will make a few little changes but just try and do what we have done every year and just make it that little bit better year on year,” he said.
Early bird tickets for Indiependence sold out in record time and last year was a sell-out, so don’t hang around to get your ticket, priced at €109.
