IT’S renowned for its quiet beauty and stunning scenery but next week the village of Ardpatrick will strike a louder note when it hosts a range of bands and activities as part of the Na Fianna Festival.
Kicking off next Tuesday, the festival will feature something to suit all tastes including a movie night, table quiz, fun run, treasure hunt and a Battle of the Parish.
One of the highlights of this year’s festival will be a performance by folk/rock group Hermitage Green on Sunday, August 4 in The Greenwood Inn, Ardpatrick.
“This is also our gathering party so to celebrate we are giving away €500,” explained Elaine Goggin of the festival committee.
“To enter this draw, people must have travelled home from outside of Ireland, and provide us with proof of travel. The winner will be drawn out on Sunday night and the person entered into the draw will have to be there on the night to claim their prize,” she added. Tickets for the Hermitage Green event are priced at €10.
Other highlights of the festival – which runs until Sunday, August 4 will be the charity Alternative Niamh of Na Fianna event on Friday, August 2, and the Night for Reminiscing with Brendan Shine on Saturday, August 3 in The Greenwood Inn.
“The Alternative Niamh of Na Fianna was a huge hit last year, and a great night’s entertainment is guaranteed with males dressing up as females for charity,” said Elaine.
The festival will open this Tuesday with bingo in the community centre. On Wednesday there will be a movie night, followed by a table quiz on Thursday.
On Saturday, August 3 there will also be a 7K fun run, and a homecoming Mass. Bishop Fleming will launch his latest book entitled Ardpatrick Remembered after Mass in the community centre.
On Sunday events taking place include a kiddies disco, afternoon tea, a treasure hunt, duck race, and an Over 40s v U40s competition.
