WITH the Christmas season in full swing, the upcoming Ancór Chamber Choir Christmas Concert in the candlelit surroundings of St Mary’s Cathedral is the ideal way to get into the festive spirit.
Limerick’s multi-award winning choir will treat audiences to a feast of seasonal music for choir, soloists and orchestra and seasonal treats of mulled wine and mince pies will be served at the interval.
This year’s programme features the Oratorio de Noël by Saint-Saëns and The Magnificat by Arvo Pärt. The performance will also feature music from The Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten and the Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Vaughan Williams.
This year’s concert takes place on Wednesday, December 17 at 8pm and features Limerick natives Sinead Fitzpatrick (soprano) and Sarah-Ellen Murphy (mezzo soprano). Male soloists include Stuart Kinsella (tenor) and Paul McGough (bass), with choir members Carrie Dike and Elaine Kolshus also featuring. Ancór welcomes special guest harpist Anne-Marie O’Farrell, who has recently been appointed Composer-in-Residence at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, in her first performance with the choir and their guest orchestra.
Ancór was established in 2005 ago by musical director Cecilia Madden. The choir has performed extensively throughout Ireland and abroad.
